Schilleci arrested, evading arrest, McCarney within 48 hours, suspension:  http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20140909-schilleci-out-for-one-game-after-arrest.ece

Abbe, arrested, DWI, McCarney suspends him the same day:  http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20130502-football-unt-senior-dt-suspended-after-arrest.ece

Loving and Ellis, arrested, shoplifting, McCarney within 48 hours, suspensions:  http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2014/07/breaking-news-mccarney-suspends-ellis-loving-indefinitely.html/

So, tell me, why is that Dan McCarney could act so quickly for these type of arrests, but Littrell can go weeks without making public comment and still have the player working out?

Again, who is coaching the team, Rick Villarreal or Seth Littrell?

This is a question, by the way, that could be detrimental to both:
(1) If Villarreal is not letting Littrell do his job, that's a problem.  It think it's highly unlikely...but, it's a problem, nonetheless, if that's the case.
(2) If Littrell simply hasn't disciplined the kid, that is a huge problem.  A very bad sign about how hands on Littrell might be with discipline.

Schilleci got caught with a fake ID, then ran.  Ellis and Loving shoplifted. Abbe drove drunk.  All bad.

Kidsy injured other people, drove off, then lied about it!  Far more serious.  And, what have we gotten out of our new head coach about it?  He's still practicing with the team?

Unacceptable.

You can pick and choose who you want to blame here.  But, the precedent set by past coaches was that the coaches suspended the players and did so publicly.

McCarney, within 48 hours of D'Audrey Bradley's shoplifting arrest last June:  http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/06/breaking-news-unt-signee-daundrey-bradley-arrested.html/

Too lazy to go back and dig into the Dodge era.  Suspect he was the same as McCarney.  Off hand, can only remember Forrest Rucker stealing credit cards and using them.  Dodge kicked him off the team the same week he was caught.  As I recall, he came back the next year after sitting out a semester, then got injured?  Anyone?

Anyway, point is, these were head coaches making quick decisions, publicly.  Where is Littrell, the new head coach?  Surely, Rick Villarreal didn't change the discipline dynamic to take discipline away from the football head coach.

Not sure letting Kidsy work out at NT facilities is that big of deal.  It's off season, and it is quite possible Littrell wasn't even aware of him working out and the strength coach may not have been even advised about the situation. It certainly doesn't look good, but I don't see a whole lot of harm to anyone.

On a side note, McCarney was big on suspensions, but his players rarely if ever missed any playing time.   I certainly would not use him as an example of tough discipline.

You forgot #3:

If Rick Villarreal told Littell to concentrate on recruiting and RV would handle the problem. Then didnt. That would give Littrell an idea of that crapshow that he signed up for with this AD.

I'd imagine that Littrell hasn't spent more than five minutes with Kidsy individually. He shows up and a guy he really doesn't know is a problem. The problem is, before the news hit the Denton papers, none of us knew and I believe it is possible Littrell didn't know either. As far as RV goes? I can't come up with an excuse for him. He and Tommy Perry are the only constants.

This AD is a gaggle. The person in charge rates to be fired for multiple reasons. There is no reason why he is still here aside from him being able to gentle rub elbows with the right people...That's it. Literally.

Yep, but as you progress in life, young Ben, you will find that this is the most important skill to possess. It beats hard work and determination every time. Sad but true.

And never truer than with Rick Villarreal at North Texas.

He is just such a good guy, darn it.

Littrell is out on the recruiting trail, and McCarney never had that issue?

Frankly I just don't care that much.  This is easily chalked up to a young first time head coach learning as he goes.  I care far more about his lack of success on the recruiting trail.  Morris and English aside he needs to show us more.

I honestly don't know if Kidsy has been working out or not but I do know that his name has been removed from the roster on Mean Green Sports.  I doubt that our efficient SID staff would make that kind of mistake on their own.  Why would they arbitrarily remove his name without someone in the know telling them?

Admittedly, there should have been some statement from the Athletic Department that he has been dismissed from the squad or suspended.  But, we do know that Littrell is on the road and not sitting in the office as Mac was so the situation is not exactly the same.  Seth should, and I believe will, as soon as he returns.  I certainly don't believe that it's the duty of the Athletic Director to make that decision.  It certainly didn't happen in McCarney's cases.

I think for this time of year letting the police and the court system do its job is acceptable.   I just hope he has contacted the young man behind the scenes and let him know that if the report are true then, he won't be in a Mean Green Uniform till late October if at all in 2016.   Regardless of the status of the case by then Seth needs to issue a statement before March 1 addressing the situation.   Seth is going to make or break his opportunity this spring as he installs his offense and coaches up the returning members of this team.  I agree that from the outside looking in at this situation it doesn't look good.  But that doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot at this point.   Now if stuff like this is occurring in late Spring or Summer with lagging responses I would be very worried and disappointed.

The thing is Rivk Villarreal took the lead on this thing from the very beginning. RV was the one out front making statements. I can't remembered if this happened before Littrell was hired, but if so, it's pretty natural for RV to be the person to handle it.

If it happened after Littrell's hire, it's obvious RV told Littrell he would handle it. And then didn't.

Either way, it's Rick Villarreal's responsibility, and we know that because he lied, and that's what he does when he screws up things for which he is responsible.

I hear you but even if what you say is true what is supposed to happen right now?  What is Seth supposed to do?  He need to finish up recruiting.  Take a deep breath get some family time.  By that time it is March 1 and would have given him time to get the details talk to this young man and announce a decision.  You are not going to get me disagree with you when you say RV is horrible.  The real question is how do you expect Seth to manage bigger RV situation?   And the biggest question of all is, do you think Seth has a green light to manage the RV situation as he sees fit?  If he doesn't then this program is a complete lost cause.  UNT is not above pulling a UAB contrary to popular belief in my opinion.  If  RV is here past the end of the 2018 i would be willing to bet there won't be a 2024 FBS level Mean Green Football team officially.

RV is by far the worst AD in FBS, who MUST have the worst combined revenue sports record. And he is still here. Do you seriously think Littrell has any political pull to demand RV do his job and mandate how he does it? And if that's the case, UNT athletics is far more messed up than in MY wildest imagination.

This smacks of an AD that has checked out on the program. We saw it last year with Mac.

I feel terrible for Littrell. Makes it hard for him to have any chance of success.

I don't think Seth can mandate how RV does his job but he could have the green light to ignore and work around RV whenever possible.  And it would make sense because if Seth has a marginally competent agent then his buyout carries a hell of lot more weight than RV's does right now.  More messed up than your wildest imagination?  I don't how anything would surprise you at this point?   It is absolutely ridiculous that we are even having this discussion surrounding a coach that has just been hired.  If I were Seth I would stayed at UNC and bet on myself that another Texas area FBS job would come available and worse case the UNT job would we be available again in 4 years because RV leadership would get the new coach and RV fired at the same time.  I just hope for Seth's and UNT's sake he hasn't taken his career for a bad and bumpy detour away from the path of being a P5 head coach or a "superpower" P5 team's OC.

The premise of this thread is basically this: that a guy who has just been hired and told to hire a staff and do in less than 2 months what his competition, with staff in place, has been doing for the last year and a half, almost every one of them representing a program with a more successful recent history to sell to new recruits, just happens to have been fully informed, and continues to be fully informed, of everything that he needs to know by his new supervisor, and that said supervisor also enjoys the full confidence of the chief executive of the institution, and has built a support staff that can keep said new hire and new staff out on the recruiting trail while he manages any problems that may arise among the players back in their dorm rooms and various off campus abodes, in a college town that, like so many, has temptations around every corner.

I mean, has the author of this thread seen ever seen a new hire being informed as to whatever difficulties he/she may face, even by an immediate supervisor of high character?  If anybody were to find anything out here, rather than speculate on the possible variations of such an asinine premise of a thread, it would probably require Vito submitting a freedom of information request to find out who has write permissions to the database containing the current roster for the football team.  Short of that, it's all just speculation by many, who, having at some point taken a position with inherent risks, hoped for a glimmer of understanding by those relying on their miracle working skills, while keeping a keen eye out for the boss when the best opportunity for blame shifting comes his way.

Some of y'all are just itching to see Litrell fail.  You might even have some pre-packaged told-ya-so postings saved on your PC, ready to fire when you think appropriate.

You do realize that I believe this incompletely RV's fault, right?

Although I do believe that ANY head football coach would have an EXTREMELY tough time being successful while working for this AD. History agrees with me.

Ok, I think it's time to go with plan b. Obviously, some people don't know when it's time to quit, some people don't know when to fire someone.

Solution's simple- dead hooker (Harry Hines still has a lot of them laying around, right?) goes in certain people's trunk, police are called.  Once investigation is complete, sure that dude is exonerated but the pr nightmare requires immediate termination.

Youre welcome America.
