Nice. He has a 4.0 GPA and is the valedictorian. That is nice. Should make his transition to college a lot easier if he is not struggling in the classroom.

As for the rest, sounds kind of like a non-story. Basically they have not discussed what the exact modalities are, but he will likely red or blue or some color shirt next season and then play the season after. Seeing as bulking up a bit to not be injury prone would do him good, that seems all kinds of reasonable.

So Vito, when I asked "scholarship offer confirmed," and you said "that's what it says." There was no official confirmation as a lot of us suspected?

No, he will be a scholarship player, according to him and his coach. It's a matter of immediately or later.

Does this mean we are trying to sign another Qb?

Yes, I mean, no, wait probably?

I guess I should have specified in my original question, immediate scholarship offer or not. Whatever, not that it matters, but the discussion beforehand on here was whether it was a blueshirt or not which is why we were asking. The question came up because he had an unofficial visit and therefor could blue shirt.

Way to be skeptical and pay attention.

Here's why it doesn't matter:

As long as he doesn't get pissed off and go elsewhere because of paying his way for a semester, this would enable him to get AT LEAST 4 years after Alec leaves, or possibly even redshirt in 2017 and go 4 years AFTER THAT (or reserve a redshirt for later, umm, just in case?), depending upon what options/surprises Littrell has/gets at QB.  More time to grow/develop/strengthen, and more time to become as awesome a college player as he was relative to the high school field.  This is just a way for the staff to finagle scholarship numbers by using loopholes in situations where they don't expect someone to need immediate playing time.

Most of the East Texas recruits are from small schools like this as well. Not that big of a deal. Just hope he can pick up the speed of the FBS game.

Sounds like he has the tools and motivation to do so. It is a gamble of sorts, but certainly one worth taking.

I mean the only three options are blueshirt offer, immediate regular scholarship offer, or preffered walk-on offer. All of those involve a scholarship offer either now or in the future. He knew what I was asking.

Preferred walk on DOES NOT include a scholarship. You may get a scholarship if you perform, but nothing is guaranteed.

Thats why they call it walk on.

Okay, so a blueshirt is a guarantee then? Basically it sounds like he's not paying for school regardless. For one, he has stellar grades. For another, he is a registered member of a Native American tribe, so tuition is covered already.

The only guaranty is that Preferred walk-ons get a spot on the fall roster. They usually don't get scholarship offers until junior year if they perform. Regular walk-ons are assured of nothing.

I did not know that fact about the tribal native Americans. Interesting.
