So we are almost halfway through the conference schedule and the season continues to remain a somewhat jumbled mess.

The preseason predictions have proven wildly inaccurate. The four selectors who picked WKU to finish atop the league currently look like geniuses while the four selectors who picked ODU are left scratching their heads. And the individual who picked UTSA should really refrain from picking next season as they have been shown to be clueless.

2015-16 C-USA Preseason Poll
1. Middle Tennessee (5) -- Currently in 3rd (5-2)
2. Old Dominion (4) -- Currently in 10th (3-4)
3. WKU (4) -- Currently in 1st (7-0)
4. Southern Miss -- Currently in 5th (3-3)
5. UTEP -- Currently in 1st (7-0)
6. Charlotte -- Currently in 6th (3-4)
7. UTSA (1) -- Currently in 13th (2-5)
8. UAB -- Currently in 6th (3-4)
9. Louisiana Tech -- Currently in 4th (4-2)
10. Marshall -- Currently in 6th (3-4)
11. Florida Atlantic -- Currently in 6th (3-4)
12. Rice -- Currently in 12th (2-5)
13. FIU -- Currently in 14th (0-7)
14. North Texas -- Currrently in 6th (3-4)
(#) - first-place votes

At this point, UTEP and WKU have established themselves as the teams to beat. And UTSA, Rice and FIU are scraping the bottom of the barrel. But the rest of the league is a mashup with six teams at 3-4 and with blowouts and nailbiters scattered throughout conference play.

This week may go a long way in sorting things out as UTEP hosts the 4th and 5th place teams while WKU travels down the 100 Miles of Hate to play at MT. If the UTEP and WKU make it unscathed, their matchup next Saturday at Western could well decide the conference title.
