It has been slow but I would think we would see a volcano of activity after this weekend.  We are getting too close to signing day for it not to happen unless we are in stealth commitment mode.

There is no such thing as stealth commitment mode anymore.

Im not expecting any volcano of activity.

Right,   the only "stealth" stuff we see anymore are tweets from guys saying "I'm going to announce on such-and-such day", so they can create intrigue.

Well we are at 12 days till signing day and we have what 4-5 commits when you leave out mid terms.  Seems like we are nearing the point where there would be some activity no?  Are you saying it will be next weekend? cause that is basically it for this cycle.

I would expect a flurry of activity last week of recruiting as guys who are fallback recruits for other programs get word they won't be offered.

Hopefully we pick up one or two this weekend.

It's safe to say that Littrell and Co are getting a taste of G5 recruiting right about now. It use to be for them as easy as, "Hi, I am Coach X from the University of Power 5 school. We would like for you to come play in front of our 60K+ crowd for the next 4 years."

Now they are saying, "Hi, I am Coach X from North Texas. I know we went 1-11 last year, but we would like for you to come play in front of our 13K+ crowd for the next 4 years. Yes, it's true, we haven't had a player drafted in over 10 years. Yes, it's also true that we have had 1 winning season in the last decade plus. Forget all of that nonsense though, we have 10K dedicated real fans along with 17 donors to get us sweet riddell look-a-like jerseys brought to you by our underachieving athletic director."

Young BG, you are starting to understand...we told you that you will eventually see how things work here.  All of us were just like you at one time in our lives, full of Mean Green belief and wanting to be included at parties full of Longhorns, Aggies, Sooners, Bears, Horned Frogs, Hogs, etc...to talk sports without getting laughed out of the house. We knew that one day we could become every bit as good as them, all it would take was the university committing to making us a winner. For me, it was basically 1990-2013. But 2014's regression in football, combined with the continued accepted ineptitude of Benford, made me realize that my roommates in college and our college buddies who long ago abandoned UNT Sports were the ones who were right about us not giving a damn about sports. My roommate was prone to say, "Why would I care about our teams when the administration doesn't care." I scoffed at that thought, thinking he just didn't want to give us his support because we were a loser.

But it was in 2014, when a Texas HS Coach told me that his kids didn't want to go to UNT because of the fact that it was seen as a place that didn't care about winning at football, it made me finally realize what I was connected to all of these years and how wrong I was for believing otherwise. The light literally came on and I knew that expecting us to ever care about winning was fruitless. On a good note, this season showed that the UNT 17 have made it possible to not have to accept being totally embarrassed anymore, by ponying up the funds to fire McCarney on the spot after suffering the worst loss in modern college football history. That was the best athletic administrative decision that UNT has ever done in my lifetime of following them, which is really sad, but also hopeful, too.

I obviously would not say anything I wrote while throwing a pitch to a recruit. But most of that, if not all of it, is well documented. I will tell you, if I was recruiting against us I would be using on us. That's for sure.

And another thread takes the RV turn.

I think what we are witnessing is the difference in Mac and Littrell.  Mac was always in Denton ready to talk "coach speak" to any and every microphone stuck in his face while Littrell is out on the road doing work.  The silence is deafening but I have a feeling we are going to be pleased with this class.

Silence is not a good thing in recruiting. Not necessarily from the coach but we should be hearing it from the players, i.e. "I am committing to the University of North Texas."

Do they all "advertise" where they are going?  I don't recall knowing all of the players we had in on visits during the Mac years and usually found out the whole list after the weekend or late on Sunday.

Yes, on Twitter most of the time. We knew about most of our offers and commits and visits recently first on Twitter. Most of these kids tweet a lot especially about who they are looking at to play football for. Look at the pictures that have posted so far of kids visiting with the coaches, all from twitter. I do remember hearing of several visits during Mac's time before they happened either through Vito or Twitter.

I respectfully disagree. It is not easy to recruit against other P5's at North Carolina, Indiana and Texas Tech. Almost all P5's offer the chance to play in front of 60k+ crowds for 4 years. Littrell had to try to recruit kids against Florida State/Michigan/Texas. And that isn't easy to do from where he has been. Recruiting is recruiting. The scale barely matters.

I am positive Littrell could have filled up our class right now picking off kids from Abilene Christian, Midwestern State and any other smaller program. There are no shortage of kids wanting to get their education paid for to play college football.  But as far as I am understanding it, Littrell got a late start and is actually competing for kids against schools like Texas A&M and UCLA (something our previous coach NEVER did).

I believe Littrell is waiting to see how many of the balls he is swinging at land over the fence for a homerun before he starts filling this class up with kids who would take ANY offer from an FBS school (the equivalent of walks and singles, to continue the metaphor). The "I will take any offer kids" are mostly going to be there until signing day and beyond.

I like that he is not panicking and am confident that he will deliver a solid class.

What's scary is we definitely won't have any type of fallback plan if some recruits change their minds.

We had a month long dead period, plus retained Perry and KP for at least long enough for him to familiarize the new staff. I would hope they at least have some.
