I don't want to lose Combs, Brown, and Brice. Reese and Johnson will stay as seniors. I also like Lawson and don't want to risk losing him. Fuller had been a major disappointmentband Holston has show flashes of being good, but nothing lately. I do like his length and athleticism though. Fuller could go.

You said Holston earlier today. And you used to say GWP last year as a player you didn't want to risk losing by letting go of Benford. He's assembled a decent roster. There are plenty of coaches who can do that and actually get the most out of their team.

I cannot remember if I said Pittman last year or not. He was great decent against D2 competition but has been pretty bad this year. I'm torn on Holston. So much potential, but not reaching it. Maybe a new coach helps that or maybe he leaves. IDK.

Benford is great with the kids but the X's and O's just aren't there during gameplay. That and we just aren't operating well. Offensively the biggest difference I see is that we do not shoot the ball like we did under JJ. Deckie has show the range but no one else has. Harris did but he was yanked if he took a shot. I miss Watson and Davis among others. Marshall showed us last game how it's done.

I have a hard time saying Benford has assembled a decent roaster given some of the production.  There are 4 players that have scored over 100 points (3 players above 200 points) so far in this season. Katenda is the 5th leading scorer with 90 points. Brice and Holston are both in the 80s.  Maybe it's Benford not effectively using what he has.

For comparison sake, Western Kentucky has 5 players that have scored more than 100 and 3 players in the 90s.

All good points. He's brought in a few decent players, but, as you indicated, it's nothing we could never hope to get from a new coach.

Looking at the schedule, I see a chance for 4 more wins. At Rice, both F_U games, and one of the S Miss. games.

Probably 2 of those and surprise in one other game for a 10 win season.

Then Benford gets fired and RV gets another chance to affect UNT athletics for 4 years down the road.

Only at North Texas.

That record of the revenue hires RV has made in the last decade is now down to 139 games under .500. And, unless the women can pull out a winning season, those hires will be looking at just 1 winning season out of 21.

An AD keeping his job through that shows there is no performance-based lack of results that could possibly cause him to lose his job. He absolutely gets to keep his job, regardless of lack of how bad things have been.

Charlotte is not a good team as well (current just above UTSA) and we play them twice, so in theory that should be two more wins.

Do you really expect this team to sweep any conference opponent they play twice?

I think the absolute high mark is 5 more wins. That is if everything goes perfectly. It won't. WKU is hella bad this year, and they just beat UNT in Denton.

This team remains terribly inconsistent, a sure sign of bad coaching. I think 10 wins is the ceiling.

I said "in theory" but that was by no means an endorsement of a sweep.

I'll go with 10 to 15 wins but I doubt this team gets to .500 ball this season.

I'm about to lose my spot in the Benford gets fired pool.  I originally had tomorrow as the date of firing until @TheTastyGreek gently reminded me that termination on MLK day would not look so great, so I moved it back to Tuesday.  Playing .389 ball, where the wins have come against lower division teams and horrible, horrible barely pass for D1 teams, but nothing.  Not a chirp.  I'm going to invest in dry cleaning.

A lot of coaches do it, but I never understand why you pull a player when he is red hot.  Combs with 14 points and he is pulled for a short rest and scores 3 in the last twelve minutes or so.

Combs was on the free throw line, looked at the bench, pointed and pulled on his jersey.  I took that as request for a sub.

i was surprise how few students were at the game last night, i know  they are still on break, but there were more at the previous game.   I think i have gone to by last game of the benford era.  I love UNT but it is painful to watch.  We have talent but no coaching.  We call a timeout and no adjustments are made or it seems that way.

Free throws.  Hit 'Em UNT wins this game.  UNT didn't...less than 60% from the line.  UNT lost.  End of story. AGAIN!

North texas has shot the 7th most free throws this year...but...are ranked 351st in the nation in percentage making them...tied with the mighty hornets of Delaware state...351st is last by the way...

Clearly they think they "know something" about basketball by trashing. Only problem is they don't actually reply with a reasonable response. Most likely because they have non. Maybe face to face on the court they can demonstrate this "knowledge". I am by no means an expert, but some of the things said on here are ridiculous.

I'm just throwing this out there, but do you have an alternate username that you post under that goes by the name "Ben Gooding"?
