SAN MARCOS — When Everett Withers was introduced Thursday as the new head football coach at Texas State, his first official appearance on campus was more like a pep rally than press conference.

There were more cheerleaders, players, assistants from the former regime and well-heeled boosters than members of the media in attendance, with some of the fans even taking the microphone to query Withers about his plans to jump-start the Bobcats’ program after a dismal 3-9 season.

“I’ve got a plan, and it’s infallible,” Withers said. “I’m not a patient man, and I won’t ask for patience from (our fans). Fan stands for ‘fanatic.’ Fanatics want something right now. I get it. I understand it. I’m ready to go to work.”

Dennis Franchione retired on Dec. 22. Withers comes to San Marcos after compiling a 19-7 record and leading James Madison to back-to-back NCAA Division I FCS playoff appearances and a conference championship. James Madison also set a school record with a 14-game regular-season winning streak after the Dukes won the final seven games of the 2014 season and began 2015 with a 7-0 record.

This is the attitude that I like to see. He understands expectations and he understands what needs to be done. He will not sit on his words like many, but will express that he has a full understanding. Seems like a good hire.

lol.   @oldguystudent, with how much you disdain Dodge for the reason highlighted above, I imagine you would have reacted in the same way as Mr. Fields & withdrew all monetary support if would have been hired here.

      Softball vs. UAB (4/17 & 4/18/25)

      Mother Nature disrupts another softball series. With Easter on Sunday, and bad weather expected Saturday, the ladies will play one game tomorrow and a doubleheader Friday starting at 3 PM. Tight race in The American as we enter the last three conference series. UNT needs two wins this series to match their win total from last year. I maintain getting a top two seed is the highest priority but we are right there with #1 FAU and hold the tiebreaker, the only team in the conference to do so. Other Series This Weekend FAU @ East Carolina Memphis @ South Florida UTSA @ Charlotte Wichita State @ Tulsa I don't foresee South Florida or Charlotte losing this weekend, so a sweep at home against UAB is almost necessary.

      We’re not alone

      I read somewhere before the teams were even seeded that Florida, Auburn, Duke, and Houston were a step above every other team. There was some metric/stat they showed to back up the statement. So, yes, I think those teams were accurately seeded…though TT almost had something to say about it.

He reported also that Johnson left towards the end of the season. I knew I didn't see her any longer, but I thought maybe injuries, but it turns out she left like Abou did a few years back. Brackens went into the portal and has since landed at Tarleton State. The only people he says that are coming back are Tac, who was injured all season, Chania Price, and Talley.
