Denton is more fun than albuquerque, UNM is a commuter school aka the University Near Mom.   How anyone would choose UNM over UNT is a mystery to me.  I lived in albuquerque for about 30 years and recently moved back to Denton.  The campus is located in a crime zone.  It is more a basketball school than football, can't get a ticket to the basketball games but there is not much else to do there.

If my options (out of high school 18 year old) were UNT versus University of New Mexico i would have chosen New Mexico as well.  Bigger name recognition than UNT

If that is your sole premise then you're a shallow person.

This "forward" thinking is a huge reason reason why kids commit to places. But it's also a huge reason for the mega boom in transfers over the last decade.

To play sports I would have much rather gone there than North Texas be honest we historically have been awful.

@Ben Gooding are you playing in the basketball game?

Yes, we have been bad, but making a decision based on which pile a shit stinks worse seems like a stretch.

Planning on it as of now.

Why do you ask?

As a parent we know the chances of pro is zero! Education and GETTING a degree is the key for most of these kids. Where you go to college geographically, it  is a very strong chance you will make a living in that region. I do not believe there is better opportunities than DFW! I expect us to beat most MWC, all SBC, UTSA, La Tech in recruiting battles for local talent. I am hopeful for this class and I expect a lot more out of the next!!

Not sure why I was quoted in this, but I agree completely.

unless you are a engineer there are not many jobs that pay anything in albuquerque.

I would not think students would assume that staying in New Mexico after college is a realistic option for most.  Even people I know who are New Mexico natives describe the hiring process as cronyism, or brother-in-law deals, whatever.  I will say that one of the most talented artists I have known was forced to become a professional artist after returning to New Mexico from Texas and discovering that it was  so unlikely to become hired with 2 college degrees and years of experience that the hard road to being self supporting as an artist was the easier path.
