As a prospect, he was on a completely different level than Pegram.  Pegram was a 2-star with just one P5/BCS offer (from Purdue). Stevenson was a 4-star with all kinds of P5 offers.

But as an actual real player he's done nothing at the level Pegram did...so we'll see how it goes.

actually...everything you've capitalized AND italicized takes place in the spring once players are signed and practices begin and the staff can see exactly what they're working with.

the "here and now"...HERE AND NOW in January...is recruiting, rumors, transfers, innuendo, verbals and hope. and it's actually pretty interesting this year.

Interesting note on Jordan Stevenson. He played his junior and senior years at South Oak Cliff, but had previously been a star running back at Dallas Skyline, playing in the backfield with quarterback DeVante Kincade. Stevenson transferred schools when Kincade went to college at Mississippi.

Link: http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/high-school/highschoolheadlines/2013/08/09/standout-running-back-jordan-stevenson-transfers-from-skyline-to-south-oak-cliff

Skyline has always been a magnet school; where kids can attend from across the city. Stevenson had always resided in the SOC zone and decided to transfer to be the top dog. Stevenson split time in the backfield as a soph and he knew they had a heralded freshman coming up in Daleon Ward (TX Tech commit)

Emmett Jones, assistant @ Skyline, left to become Head Coach @ SOC. Jones, also brought along some key Skyline assistants.

Stevenson was committed to UT his entire senior year. He flipped to Wisconsin (where he didn't meet entrance requirements) right after the season. Never thought Nebraska was the right fit due to the RB's ahead of him. Don't know what he will decide but I think some kids come to the realization that they are just another fish in a big pond; at some P5 schools.

Thanks for the clarification @Cooley.  Let me also add, it is inherently unfair that Skyline is allowed to take any DISD transfer and is the major reason why they dominate in football.  They basically can cherry pick the best athletes in the district.  I also don't think it is fair that Allen can have one high school with their huge population.  Someday we may have someone step in and make changes that level the playing field but I won't hold my breath.

Whether or not we get Stevenson, BigWillie is exactly right.    We never had any buzz like this with Mac, even at the very beginning.     It seemed like Mac's job was to put a competitive football team on the field as soon as possible, which he did.    Littrell and his staff give off an aura of "we are young and good and can achieve anything".   That kind of attitude excites people.   I would rather have somebody shoot for the skies and fail, then carefully and safely achieve mediocrity.

Totally agree! I was excited about Mac coming in (that all crumbled the past 2 seasons), but there is a different buzz with Littrell. Mac is light years away from Littrell's recruiting skills. Let's hope that Seth can match his own coaching with his recruiting/leadership. What is also cool is that Littrell has a whole list of DFW high school coaches that he is following on Twitter and we are witnessing them reaching out to him via social media. The recruiting game is evolving with the times, and I think Mac was a stubborn dinosaur that refused to go along with the times, as well as just accept mediocrity and use the grand ol' North Texas excuse of "It's hard to recruit at NT.".

I hope to never hear a high school coach in DFW ever say that he never heard from North Texas again. And I think Littrell has been covering ground very well for the month that he has been here at UNT. We shall see what plays out in February!

To me, it sounds like the same dice roll as any other P5 transfer, but the jackpot is bigger.

Not really.  This isn't a Marcus Trice-type transfer:  someone who had a reputation for hard work, had excellent on and off the field results at his prior school.

This is a guy who ended up not being able to get into Wisconsin, then showed up at Nebraska not ready to go...then, quit.  Trice is a jackpot type of transfer.  This type is the dice roll.

I would also love to see a maximum age of 19 to play football in high school. 18 would be good, but just has to be written for fall sports so 19 true max age would be good.

Tired of hearing about parents holding back their sons just to see if they can play varsity later on...

ETA: probably best if neither of us tries holding our breath for any of those changes!

Mac thought the whole facilities thing would be enough.  Just like some posters on this site think. I have read some on here say, "we have great facilities" and think it should be easy to recruit to UNT.  You need every advantage out there.  Even the winning schools are pulling out everything.  Anyone who says that, this or that,  does not matter in recruiting can't be farther from the truth.  Every base needs to be covered.

Texas ties, twitter game, minority coaches, playing time, uniforms, fans at games, diverse student body, girls, Nike, schedule, media coverage, and probably 100 more things that old people like us think are irrelevant.

I haven't lived in DFW since 2002 but before that Skyline was never a serious power that I can recall.  If they've always been able to draw from any school then they haven't always taken advantage of it.

Also, as an alum of Plano East, I can tell you that large numbers do not guarantee a winning program.

Well all this talk about transfers, who will not do us any good (if at all) until 2017 doesn't interest me as much as spring ball. However, I will concede that how the staff has been proceeding with their recruitment is (or should be ) a reflection of how they have already assessed the most glaring needs of team that's coming back. Spring ball 2016 is still more interesting to me than recruitment.......except for the recruits that are eligible to participate starting this spring.

I agree with this. However, it is never too early to be considering for 2017. A ginormous issue that McCarney and Co just failed to do. They rarely, if ever, recruited heavily for the following year. I do want to see what we have moving forward for 2016 and the recruits that we can pull for the 2016 season. We have an at minimum decent QB coming in with Alec Morris. We need to piece together some things around him and look at the now as well. If we droop to another 1-11 season in 2016 then 2017 will be worrisome regardless of what is coming in.

Do you recall the turmoil around his departure from OU?

I think it was something about him being a whistle-blower about the length of practices going over NCAA regulations or something.

He worked out here, and I'm so glad he did, and I love that guy.  But the above does not really endorse a "reputation for hard work".

Everyone has a reason for transferring.  Any player: HS recruit, JUCO, transfer, walk-on, whatever, is a dice roll.  It's just a matter of identifying their ceilings that determines their 'jackpot' status.  From there, you have to overcome any inhibitors (re: coach) that stand in the way of the 'jackpot'.

Agreed. On the downside, whomever he chooses will be his 3rd school in a year. He showed up to Nebraska out of shape and didn't know the playbook. The upside is that he was a 4-star STUD in high school that a lot of big name schools wanted. If he plays to that potential here in a hopefully comfortable environment closer to home, family, and friends then it will be the jackpot. If it is the same old story for him then we will have one less scholarship player on board at a position where we have not had a problem in recent memory. I think it is well worth the risk and a no-brainer.
