UTSA facing huge challenge in attracting head coach because of timing, pay

They'll probably end up with another Coker type -- someone with a big name from the past who would overlook the low salary for one more shot in FBS. What's Tommy Bowden doing these days?

OUTSTANDING read! Mumme would probably love the opportunity to come home and finish his career and nUTSAck would be very lucky to get him. They might also become relevant in CUSA PDQ.

Those are names that have "high interest" in the coaching vacancy. I don't think that feeling is reciprocated by Hickey.

The timing sucks but I think it's better than wasting another year with a beaten down Coker. Also the salary should be pretty competitive for CUSA.

I guess if they want their program to be even worse than under Coker AND get put on probation then Mumme is a good place to start.

Are you serious? Losing seasons 11 of the past 12 years, losing record against UTSA, coming off a 1 win season. You really shouldn't be looking down on anyone. Litrell is a good hire on paper but no coaching change is a guarantee especially at UNT. Even if he were to turn the program around it's not going to happen overnight.

No one with a job goes to EMU for any reason other than desperation. For the UTSA situation to be so bad to take EMU speaks volumes.

Mumme is career 139-136-1. Had to cheat at UK and still had a losing record there. His 12-11 record at SELA got him a crack at NMSU and he went 11-38 (Not exactly an upgrade from Tony Samuel), he has kicked butt in Division II and Division III (though not at Belhaven so far).

Really doubt UTSA is considering him.

UNT is just as small time as both of those schools.  Just because we made a promising hire doesnt mean we're better than either of them.  Outside of Texas, no one know either schools.
