Why McCarney:

Perhaps the best thing about McCarney’s resume is that he brings 15 years of head coaching experience with him and had success at some traditionally basement dwelling programs. Although not the same situation as BC in regards to academics and location, he did win more with less at Iowa State in his ten year tenure. McCarney had five winning seasons in Ames and took the team to as many bowls. To put that run in perspective, ISU has been to three bowl games in the nine years since McCarney was let go.

The coach was not as successful at North Texas, but did inherit a 3-9 program that he took to a bowl game within three years of his hire. In that 2013 season the Mean Green allowed only 17.8 points per game, which was the 8th nationally. The defense was 15th in rushing defense and caused the 4th highest amount of turnovers nationally.

McCarney would fill the role of what some BC fans are clamoring for which is to get a proven head coach on the coaching staff to help with clock management issues and such. Also, after being fired from North Texas two months ago McCarney isn’t in a position to take another head coaching job at a lower level program so he would be more attainable than a coach like Al Golden or Randy Edsall.

A) At this point in his life, set financially, living the vodka fueled life of leisure in Florida, already suffered a stroke, why would he want to go back to the grind in cold weather Massachusetts?

B) Oh.  Have you ever BEEN to Boston?  Dude.  I swear to God they drink Irish Whiskey for breakfast in conference rooms there! (I'm really not kidding).

So if he does get this position does that mean we no longer have to pay the remainder of his contract? Thought I read that on the internetz at GMG.com

The buyout will be reduced by whatever he would be making at BC. If his pay there is less than his UNT base salary then we owe him the balance.

So help me out, Dan had 3 or 4 seasons left?  How much would a BC DC make?  $250-350k? So this could save us anywhere from $750K-1M if he gets a contract for 5 years? That could be big.

Mac taking the job would be the best thing possible for UNT. We need ALL the money we can get our hands on and this would be a minor miracle.

I am surprised he is not getting a position with Ferentz at Iowa, Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin or perhaps on Urban Meyer's staff at State.  Maybe even the Wizard at KSU might try to throw a bone his old friend.

Funny how these coaching tree things work.

Home and home with Boston College?

Did I miss something? Do we have a new athletic director?

Or is this just a late Christmas wish?

Lol hey it's 2016 and we have a new coach. Time to move forward!

Time to "move forward" is after a terrible athletic director that destroyed all 3 revenue programs and hasn't fielded a consistent winner in football THE LAST 10 YEARS is replaced.

Just sayin...

Not disagreeing with you on that, maybe one day the president of UNT wakes up and smells the roses. I'm just tired to hearing about Dan McCarney, 2013 Heart of Dallas of Bowl and the past over and over. I'm confident that Littrell will do a good job here, but it's time to move forward.
