My question is, why aren't FBS schools offering. I know he is a JUCO All-American but why does he only have FCS offers besides UNT. Was there a concern with him graduating in time to play in Spring? Was the competition lacking? What gives?

Someone on the Recruiting Thread said he would enroll in the spring but Im almost positive I read that He graduates in the Spring so that would put him here in Fall, Right?

Yes but I read he has 3 years to play 2. So if he didn't get here till fall we could redshirt first year

Over on the Recruiting board this was discussed earlier.    The Yahoo.com page for him lists him as a December graduate.   My interpretation of this is that he would then be eligible to enroll at North Texas if he meets the entrance requirements.    Let's hope that he is able to enroll AND is eligible to go through Spring workouts.    We don't want to get caught in a situation like we did with our quarterback.......eligible to go to school but not to practice.

Thanks for the update Brett.    I was going off of information that I read last night.    I appreciate your straightening me out.  You obviously spoke to him and my wife limits my telephone calls to UNT recruiting targets.

Quote from your article, Brett:

"Putu is scheduled to graduate with his two-year degree after the spring semester and will then continue his college football career at a four-year institution.

The question now is where Puto will land. North Texas jumped into the race for the 6-2 sophomore, who was a second-team NJCAA All-American this week. Here are his Hudl highlights."

You do good work but...check the consistency of your spelling on the prospect's name more carefully in future articles. People like me that read slowly and are somewhat bilingual catch things.

Lol. Not a good typo.

Lets hope we are the only FBS offer for the Spring graduation reason and nothing else.

Likely because they've watched actual game film as opposed to HUDL highlights.  Also, FBS coaches are probably well aware that the competition in that JUCO conference is lower than the Kansas, Cali, and Mississippi JUCOs.

Problem:  How does this recruiting look any different than what we were doing before?

Yeah, you had exactly my thoughts there. This sounds right like something out of macs recruiting playbook.

He could be a diamond in the rough, but he better have all the academics worked out and the fact that there are no FBS offers plus some of those comments he made sound like he has not enough of a focus on that. It is something I am really looking for in a JUCO, because usually there is not really enough time to get them to overcome if they struggle academically and be worth the scholarship.

Then again the comments also sound like he worked really hard on getting the next chance and took matters in his own hands instead of waiting for someone to just call him up, and that is usually a useful charachter trait

One word:  North Dakota State College of Science.  And, some people here think Dickey did some stealth recruiting?

There are no JUCO CBs between here and North Dakota?  At Oklahoma NEO A&M, the Kansas JUCOs...not even from the talent-poor Iowa JUCOs?  Out east, the Mississippi JUCOs.  Out west, from talent-challenged Arizona JUCOs.  Not even a hard-scrabbled Evyn Roman can be squeezed out of a Cali JUCO?

We're now recruiting Rhode Island via North Dakota?  Not a basketball or hockey coach in sight?  This kid played his high school ball in Rhode Island.  I'd be more apt to throw him out on the basketball court and see if he could help shore up that squad.

The truth is, some people say you've got to have beans to make chili, other say you don't.  Either way, you're eating chili when all is said and done.  Add a healthy dose of Cholula to it and call it a night.
