Yea but I miss seeing it up there during the game :(

I think part of it has to do with using as little real-estate on the big screen for stats allowing more of actual video to be displayed.

I love that our four freshman really love to play. Holston, Fuller, Brown, and Brice really have fun and get into it. I hope those four stay and build a foundation of winning basketball again at North Texas. Fun to watch and really seem to love it here.

If we had swept the mean green classic like we should have we would be 8-5. 5-8 is still "good" enough for 8th in conference. Let's go on the road and sweep the Texas teams!

Our conference slate is going to be more difficult compared to what we played for non-conference.  In order to finish the regular season above .500 the Mean Green has 18 games to win 11 to finish 16-15.

01/01/16 at UTSA * TV San Antonio, TX 6:00 p.m. CT
01/03/16 at UTEP * TV El Paso, TX 4:00 p.m. CT
01/09/16 vs. Rice * TV The Super Pit 1:00 p.m. CT
01/14/16 vs. Marshall * The Super Pit 7:00 p.m. CT
01/16/16 vs. Western Kentucky * The Super Pit 7:00 p.m. CT
01/21/16 at Middle Tennessee State * Murfreesboro, TN 6:30 p.m. CT
01/23/16 at UAB * Birmingham, AL 7:00 p.m. CT
01/30/16 at Rice * Houston, TX 7:00 p.m. CT
02/04/16 vs. Southern Miss * TV The Super Pit 8:00 p.m. CT
02/06/16 vs. Louisiana Tech * TV The Super Pit 3:00 p.m. CT
02/11/16 at Old Dominion * TV Norfolk, VA 6:00 p.m. CT
02/13/16 at Charlotte * TV Charlotte, NC 3:00 p.m. CT
02/18/16 vs. Florida International * The Super Pit 7:00 p.m. CT
02/20/16 vs. Florida Atlantic * The Super Pit 7:00 p.m. CT
02/25/16 at Louisiana Tech * TV Ruston, LA 8:00 p.m. CT
02/27/16 at Southern Miss * Hattiesburg, MS 7:00 p.m. CT
03/03/16 vs. Old Dominion * The Super Pit 7:00 p.m. CT
03/05/16 vs. Charlotte * The Super Pit 7:00 p.m. CT

How many wins do you see on this schedule?  UAB (1), Old Dominion (2), Louisiana Tech (2), UTEP (1), Middle Tennessee (1) and Western Kentucky (1) are all really good teams and thus I'd consider us very lucky if we take 3 out of 8 of those games.  That leaves 10 games where there is a good chance to win.  Hopefully we take 8 out of those 10 remaining games to hit that magical number of 11 games to finish the season at 16-15.

I hope we don't. We aren't going anywhere this year and having a "winning" record at 16-15 may just keep Benford around for another miserable year of basketball or 3.

Benford still has an overall losing record.  Even if he was retained another year unless he posts a 20 win season, I see no way for him to ever be extended.

So having him here another year is ok with you?

No way he's here for one more season without getting an extension.

I don't see how anyone can't think Benford's done enough to deserve an extension so I think he's just a lame duck coach at this point. With that in mind, I think it's very likely the team wil get crushed down the stretch as they realize Benford is a dead man walking and team cohesion fails.

I had this one down as a loss, so this is a huge win.  I still see us winning only about 11 unless CUSA is weaker than expected.

As to Benford, I do think they'll just quietly let his contract expire.  He's been saved 2 years in a row by one of the other "big sports" coaches having a considerably worse record than his.  I could be wrong...but I think they just focus on the new feel of football and take their time finding a replacement for Benford.  If they do fire him, it will literally be immediately after the last game, maybe later that week at the latest.

It would be soooooo North Texas for us to somehow convince ourselves that Tony Benford should coach our team beyond the spring of 2016...BTW, what was the reported attendance last night for this old school Southland Conference matchup in Denton?

If people aren't willing to shell out the money to buy out his contract, do you think there is really a choice in getting rid of him?

He's got one year on his deal after this season. Are you really saying that RV will need a donor to buy out that year?

Maybe? After dropping what we dropped to buy out McCarney and hire Littrell, RV might be holding those purse strings a little tight at the moment.

The game program sheet last night stated that UNT is near the top in the country for free throw ATTEMPTS. When you cannot hit free throws, you get fouled a lot, you shoot a lot of free throws, you lose a lot of games.

You're kidding right? This has to be a bit... Nice job on the troll.

but just in case you aren't trolling, the university would actually have to step up and buy out this newest RV debacle hire. If it doesn't, my point about the BOR gets proven for the millionth time. If it does, it's because somebody realizes that for $325k, we get a Super Pit filled to about 20% capacity at best. That's a lot of empty seats that could pay that buyout on its own by making a good hire, something RV has not been able to do with any success in the last decade.

The problem with buying out the last year of the contract is you are sending good money after bad. Why not let him finish out that last year? It can't do any more real harm.  The people attending the games at this point are the ones that will be there regardless of how the team is doing.

You're really rolling the dice hoping that attendance returns once a new coach is hired. There really is no guarantee that you'd recover the money you spent buying out the contract.

Here's a much better way for all of this to go down:

At the end of the athletic year (which is in the May/June time frame), RV quietly rides off into the sunset never to be heard from again.  A new AD is hired by President Smatresk.  For the 2016-2017 season, Benford is allowed to finish the final year of his contract.  The new Athletic Director meanwhile quietly shops for a new head coach.  After the conference tournament, Benford rides off into the sunset never to be heard from again.  After the NCAA tournament is over, a new men's basketball coach is announced.

Because it kills recruiting for the next 2 years.

Good god, people.

I will tell you that if you gave me the option of firing Benford or RV, I'd fire RV in a New York minute and take the 2 year hit to basketball. Because at least I'd know that the main problem with athletics at UNT was out the door and a new AD would pick the next head basketball coach.
