Yeah I get it, they should count or whatever, but also don't care if others don't count them. Like you point out they are really pathetic wins.

I looked at our OOC this season and thought "man, this is the weakest schedule I've seen in a while, surely we will have a winning record going into conference." Whoops.

I think the plan was to take at least two of three against, Idaho, Samford, and Troy in the Mean Green Challenge.

This includes all games (including those pesky NAIA schools which actually skew the results):

  • So far the Mean Green have been out scored 944 to 959; Been outscored in the 2nd half 492 to 524
  • Been out shot from the Free Throw line (in terms of percentage) 61.2% to 69.8%
  • Have turned the ball over more 187 to 160 and average about 15.6 turnovers a game
  • Have an Assist-Turnover Ratio of .8 (Opponents average a .9)
  • Have had fewer steals at 85 to 101 (points to poor ball handling)

I'm not going to try to dump those NAIA schools from my stats collection/computation but if we take those out things look much worse against Div 1 competition.

However you want to count the wins, not counting last night's loss, Sagarin has us at #293, and real time RPI has us at #305.  When those get updated later today, we will drop even further. There are 351 schools listed in D1.

How many years is Benford's contract?  Was it five?  Benford firing watch notwithstanding, is he technically signed through next season?

Yes, he would be signed through 2017, signed in 2012 for 5 years. We would have to buyout the last year of his contract at $350,00 or around there. So far this year that would make, what, 3.4 million in buyouts?

Help me out here.  I think I read what you just said correctly, but to make it clear for my feeble mind.

Five years:

1) 2012-2013

2) 2013-2014

3) 2014-2015

4) 2015-2016

5) 2016-2017

So next season is his last on his contract, right?

Correct, sorry for the confusion. He is signed through this season and next (2016-17) like you illustrated.

I had the game on but worked on my computer after the first 10 or 15 minutes. It was clear by then we were dead meat. This team is very hard to watch!

Look, the team lost, but we are getting a win. Every single Benford loss is a step towards him being gone. Rob Evans, INterim UNT Coach, should get announced within the next month or so...

Speaking of Rob Evans, what actually does he do?  I never saw him move from his chair.  Does he even coach?

That's precisely why I look forward to MBB losses.  Keep the losses coming boys so we can get Benford out of here!

It seems like he is in some type of "consultant" position since he has been a head coach before and mentor to Benford. Keep in mind he's almost 70 as well.

Yeah, Rob Evans is just going to finish out the season for Benford. He isn't a long-term option, at this point.

But it has been obvious since the end of last year, when Benford was getting to stay as head coach for this next year, that Rob Evans would get the inevitable interim job once Benford officially reached the point of no return, which was when that lofty goal of a .500 season became too high of a hurdle to reach.

Cannot wait to see who RV hires to take his place...and to see the final tally on  the UNT 17 buyouts of RV contracts within a 1-year timeframe. Nobody will ever be able to question those 17 people on their financial commitment to keeping RV around as their friend and getting access to the team. Apparently, that cost is at least $2.5 million and rising, just from a buyout end.

Are we sure Rob is up for that? He is a former head coach and I'm sure a great guy, but not a lot of energy left. I'd like to see one of the other assistants get a shot at the remainder of the year. Heck, is Roger Franklin in offseason right now?

I know what he doesn't do...wear green. I didn't see anything but red and blue when the TV camera panned the bench and the announcers gave him his props.

2 things:
I don't ever cheer for Mean Green losses
Evans is not going to take over for Benford.  If Benford is fired, Evans is leaving the same day.  He's only here for Benford.
