I have questions for those of you who know a LOT more about recruiting than I do.    I understand that we can only have 85 players on scholarship and only give out 25 scholarships per year.   My understanding is that the 85 number is set in concrete but there is some room to work with the 25.    Our staff got a late start in recruiting for this year.   If they do not find 25 players that they believe will help us to get to where we want to be can they stick a couple of those scholarships in their pocket then use them next December to pick up a junior college player or two or get an early enrollment from a high school kid ?   If that is a possibility, do you think it is a good idea based on how quickly National Signing Day is from now ?

You are correct. For every scholarship short of 25 this class ends up using, that's how many extra we can have next class. Provided that the number in excess of 25 is at least how many mid-term enrollees we get next class.

An example would be us signing 22 kids this class. We would be 3 short of 25, so 3 is the magic number. Next class (2017) we could sign 3 more than 25, so 28. We would be able to sign 28 provided that at least 3 signees (the magic number in this case) were mid-term enrollees, so were enrolled by January 2017.

I would rather see us do that and hold back offers if they can't play at CUSA level.  We will just end up going after JUCOs to fill the gaps anyway.

Why fill up if all they are destined to become is scout team players?  I think that is what we are seeing now.  McCarney's first class turned out to be pretty short on talent (understandable coming off the Dodge years).  I hope we only offer if they can really help and not just to fill out 25 slots.

Hold back a couple.  See who falls out at Oklahoma and A&M at the last minute.  Fill the rest after the season.

When does the dead period end @BillySee58

12/14/15 - 1/13/16 Dead (most restrictive, no in person contact)  You can do electronic communication.

1/14/16 - 1/30/16 Contact - I imagine we will see the most activity during this two weeks as it is the only time we can do official visits etc...face to face meetings

1/31/16 Quiet  - They can visit us on campus but we can't visit them.

2/1/16 - 2/4/16 Dead

2/3/16 national signing day
