 The Mean Green improved to 4-7 after doing exactly what they needed to during a soft spot in its schedule. UNT knocked off a Nicholls team that hadn’t won a Division I game all season and turned around and beat an MVSU team that hasn’t won a game all year -...

....UNT travels to Creighton on Monday and then faces Sam Houston before opening Conference USA play. Creighton is 7-3...

 

If we're gonna claim to be 4-7,...(which we're not,.....we're 2-7).  ...then Creighton is 11-3 with wins over that cluster of nobodies they slaughtered during their tour in Italy, right?

Games in Europe have never counted for any college team...ever.  Games against NAIA and D2 schools get counted every year by someone.

I took a tour of Italy not long ago. I wouldn't recommend it.

I thought the NCAA didn't count those. I seem to recall several times teams had a different W/L when they are listed on the NCAA tourney bracket.

Maybe they changed that or just change it only at tourney time?

Sagrin ratings don't count them.

Thank you Brett.  My earlier point wasn't a shot at you of course.  Just that as a fan and alumn with even a modicum of demand for accountability and success and pride in school etc...no respectful fan base would count them as genuine games.

They count as long as the Division I school does not designate them as exhibition games. There are a lot of Division I teams that schedule NAIA or Division II teams for exhibition games. Where they don't is in some RPI rankings that measure schedule strength, which is why Real Time RPI only has UNT at 2-7.

Did UTA schedule UNT as an exhibition game? 

Cause it sure as hell felt like one...

We're not a tournament team,..we're a horrible non-tournament team led by a poor coach propped up by an even worse AD that doesn't deserve to count wins over non ship schools to elevate its record.  

We're 2-7,..about to be 2-8.

Fair enough.....their AD dept's and beat reporters may throw them in with their record in print, but if they were in our same situation their fans would be calling them on the carpet about it demanding change....not pointing out what anyone else does.

2-7...about to be 2-8 vs D1(actual) competition.

Look, the reality here is that every loss by a Tony Benford team gets us a bit closer to becoming a team not coached by Tony Benford. There's just no way we are getting anywhere near a record that could convince RV to extend him, so these next few months are just about playing out the string.

I wish RV wasn't anywhere near this hire, either, unlike the Littrell one that he was somehow at least involved in and still influences now. Unlike in football, which will take years to turn around because of the lack of overall talent, the basketball program does have talent in place. A good coach could easily get this team turned back around to a winning season very quickly.

In case anyone cares, the NCAA defines what are countable and non-countable opponents in the rulebook.  Fans can count games based off of whatever criteria they want but as far as the NCAA is concerned all our games are countable, especially when it comes to statistics for the players.  I'm sure Jeremy Combs would hate to have his double-double taken away against Jarvis Christian because the fans felt Jarvis Christian was too far below our abilities (but perhaps more so have an ax to grind against the Head Coach and Athletics Director).

I bet if asked Combs wouldn't it bring it up.  If you score-boarded the 12  year old YMCA team you wouldn't go around bragging about it.
