Georgia: Inside linebackers coach / co-special teams coordinator Mike Ekeler is leaving the staff to pursue another opportunity as a defensive coordinator. Ekeler will not coach Georgia in their bowl game. Will update…

Apparently he has left UGA to accept a DC position somewhere.  Looks like he and Coach Littrell coached at Indiana together during the 12-13 year.  Would be a huge pick up!!

Mike Ekeler, linebackers coach at Southern Cal in 2013, was named Inside Linebackers Coach at Georgia on Feb. 6, 2014. He also coordinates the defensive special teams. Ekeler had previously served as linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator at Indiana (2011-12). A native of David City, Nebraska, he had served as linebackers coach at Nebraska for three seasons (2008-10) under head coach Bo Pelini. During his three years in Lincoln, the Cornhuskers won or shared the Big 12 Conference North Division title all three seasons.

As Nebraska's linebackers coach, he was involved with some of the nation's most successful defenses. In 2010, Nebraska was third nationally in pass efficiency defense, fifth in pass defense, ninth in scoring defense and 11th in total defense. In 2009, the Cornhuskers led the country in scoring defense and pass efficiency defense, and were seventh in total defense and ninth in rushing defense.

Littrell also followed Erik Slaughter, DL coach from West Virginia on Twitter. So he could be a possible candidate too

Erik Slaughter is selling insurance in Coppell, he isn't at West Virginia. His contract wasn't renewed.

LOL!!!  We could use some of that intensity on the defense!

both feet appear to be off the ground. looks more like targeting than Carlos Harris's hit and you lot were ready to disavow him.

can someone take some stills so we know for sure?

“I’m not going to be able to coach in the bowl game,” Ekeler told the AJC. “I feel terrible as far as the players go. I love those kids; they’re great kids. But looking out for your family, sometimes you have to do things. If you don’t have a job, you have to get the job. That’s just the economics of the situation.”

Ekeler first came to Georgia in 2014 as a member of Jeremy Pruitt's defensive staff. He helped develop Ramik Wilson and Amarlo Herrera into NFL draft picks while in The Classic City, and is known by players, fans, and coaches as a fiery, emotional coach.

His tweet says "I like to apologize to Ben..." and it makes me imagine it as being a frequent thing.  Like before every practice, he would be like, "Hey Ben...I'm sorry for the facemask."

Like, we're in the film room, coach...

In fairness, it wasn't really his defense, it was Lance Dunbar. 292 all-purpose yards that game.

Not to mention the 100+ degree temperature that they weren't conditioned for.

except... the stats show the temperature was only 94, and kickoff was at 6pm.  Still, I remember a lot of discussion that the heat did them in.
