Sorry to hear about his dad.  I would have Littrell calling him asap.  This guy can play.  Could change our defense.  We should be all over guys who leave the area and want to come back home.

Father (Lee) was a running back for Hayden Fry.  Would be shocked to not see him at SMU   with his High School coach @ Desoto. (Claude Mathis)

TCU is another possibility (although also in the Big 12)

Good point Cooley - I forgot about the fact Mathis was at SMU.  Makes me think we need a similar high school powerhouse connection in our new staff.

Who knows, maybe English has a girlfriend, or family member at UNT.  Perhaps we have a good program for his particular major?  These are things you have to research and work on.  The main thing is making contact with him and his family (through coaches etc) and getting on the radar screen as a viable option.

Just curious, is that allowed?  Would there be any difference, outside the kid wondering who the hell I am, if I did the same?

As long as there aren't any "gifts" passed to the kids I dont think so but thats question for @BillySee58

I love your last question. I want to tweet the same but I worry that the kid is going to be like "Who the hell is this creepy Old guy tweeting me?"

I was under the impression if you are a donor in anyway you are not allowed to contact a recruit unless there was a previous relationship prior to an offer or interest.

So as a Mean Green Club Member that would make me a Donor so that gives me a good reason not to be the creepy tweeter guy. Thank you for clearing it up good sir

I was thinking something along those lines.  Which leads to the question, why isn't Z. Orr a member of the MGC?

He is a much better ambassador using his Pro Football twitter than giving us a few grand.  IMO.

To me, if you quote tweets, you're not directly contacting someone, you are passing along someone's statement. Although in Orr's case, i dunno.

Social media esta tricky.

Does Orr Donate to the MGC? If not than I dont think thats a violation. I would be just like a current student reaching out to him right?

I don't see his name on any of the recognition sheets.

Does it make a difference he is a transfer prospect rather than a high school student?

Easiest way to think of it is if you think it could, in any way shape or form, be a violation at all Don't Do It. The NCAA has no rhyme nor reason to what they consider violations and are the most inequitable enforcement organization on planet earth. As fans I would stay away from ALL contact with prospective student-athletes.

ETA:

Top 10 Things You Need to Know

1. ALWAYS ASK BEFORE YOU ACT! Breaking NCAA rules can render prospects and student-athletes ineligible for competition. The NCAA holds the university accountable for the actions of its fans and friends.

2. You MAY NOT make recruiting contacts with prospects, their relatives or legal guardians.  A prospective student-athlete is a student who has started classes for the ninth grade (7th grade for Men’s Basketball) or above. This prohibition includes written and telephone communications.

3. You MAY NOT contact a prospect’s coach, principal, or counselor in an attempt to evaluate the prospect.

4. You MAY send newspaper clippings and other information about talented prospects to the designated coaching staff. Also, you MAY continue established relationships with friends and neighbors whose children are prospects or current student-athletes, provided the relationship pre-dates reaching prospect status and is not based on their status as an athlete.

5. You MAY attend high school or junior college competitions provided no contact occurs with the prospect or the prospect’s relatives.

6. You MAY NOT entertain any coach from a junior or senior high school, preparatory school, or junior college or provide them with tickets or any other type of benefit.

7. You MAY NOT become involved in arranging for a prospect, a current student-athlete or their family to receive gifts, money or financial benefits of any kind.

8. You MAY NOT provide transportation to a prospect, student-athlete or their friends and family. Also, you MAY NOT spend funds to entertain prospects, student-athletes or their friends and family.

9. You MAY employ a student-athlete provided you are paying them only for the work they actually perform, paying the going rate for similar services, are not paying them or providing perks based on their status as a student-athlete and the employment has been approved by the Compliance Office.

10.You MAY NOT use a photo or name of a student-athlete for commercial purposes or sell student-athlete memorabilia.
