It is going to be just "something to watch" because RV doesn't have the mental capacity to realize that CUSA is on the brink of falling apart. We have all been saying it for at least a year, but he will sit on his hand and we will get left in the dust. Therefore, we will just "watch."

Yep, by leaving that guy in power, we assure ourselves of being in the new Sun Belt.

Sad at this point.

The good news is there is a basketball game tomorrow night.

Oh wait...

Well, keep in mind that Boise made themselves notable in the WAC prior to going to Mountain West. I get it, we don't want to be left behind, but if we win and win consistently with some named opponents sprinkled in here and there, we'll get noticed without regard to our conference affiliation. I'm not patient in some capacities, but this is something that I will be patient with. If Littrell is who I think he is, we will be more competitive. If we are competitive, we will build.

First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women (in this case, women will be conferences).

We already are left behind. We are clearly third in the DFW area and 11th in Texas (thanks Texas State). The MWC won't call on us because they have many better performing programs with much better attendance or name recognition in Texas already to choose from. The AAC already has the two big G5 Texas teams, including the one in DFW. If they added anymore in Texas, it'd be UTEP or UTSA if UH is still there, or Rice if they aren't.

We are in a conference that we should be able to compete in but can't right now. Try to enjoy us winning games here, even if the remaining teams we like being associated with leave eventually. Fortunately, too, our conference isn't considered the worst in FBS, either, so we have that going for us, even if some of the SBC teams are better than us now and could easily move up and compete right away in CUSA.

I don't see SMU as that much higher on the totem pole than us. They're just coasting off of their SWC legacy, which disappears more and more as time goes on. The local media pays them a bit more attention for now, but nowhere near what they do TCU and the Big 12. The two schools are mostly interchangeable right now, Larry Brown's NCAA violations aside. UH is the current "big" G5 school in the state. They're putting a lot of time, effort, and money into hiring the right coaches, revamping their facilities, and getting people out to games.

I'm very interested in what happens with SMU's football program next year. Morris had the athletes he needed to compete right away, but still got his teeth kicked in the first year.

My lord, Unt90.....give it up. This forum cannot have one thread where you don't chime in about RV. It's so old, sad, and played out.

We get it already. You don't like him. Your not moving your agenda forward by constantly posting it here.

thank you..

One constant complaint on this board is not recruiting Denton.  Here, Littrell visits Guyer his first week, and this thread doesn't have a single comment or "atta boy" for him.  We can rag RV though.

OK, he visited a school. I took a dump last night. Two little facts that are irrelevant. Until he starts landing guys out of Denton County color me skeptical of having any short term success in Denton County. He's going to have to hit East, West, and South Texas to fill this class. DFW knows us all too well right now.

It's that type of narrow minded thinking that drives me insane.  Kids WANT to play in a fast uptempo multiple offense where anyone can get the rock.  ALOT of kids really want to play close to family. Sure you will have your 5-10 DFW kids who are all but sold on going out of town or playing in a bigger conference.  You know what? Good for them for wanting that. They EARNED it by having a hell of a lot more athletic ability than anyone on this board.  I will be shocked if Coach can't get at least a few local Denton/Dallas county kids to flip.  Mind you that will be with a whole month and a half to recruit.

Sure, it drives me crazy too. But it's just the way it is right now.. He's going to have to have some difference makers to come in to gel with the current roster and move on with what he has. We are going to be pounded in recruiting by TCU in the area. They have the pick of the litter in regards to DFW schools. Also, Smwho beats us out way more than not for recruits. That's just the way that is. Smwho and UNT are in exact spots in terms of competitiveness, but Smwho has a "better" (aka more expensive) education than UNT. They have a filled up basketball arena to take recruits on visits so they have the opportunity to say (even if it's not true), "if you think Moody is rockin', wait until you're playing in Ford on Saturdays." They are closer to the DFW "hot spots", whatever those are. If we had been putting together 8-9-10 win seasons over the last 3 or 4 years recruits would undoubtedly choose us over them. But, that's not the case and we are in the situation we are in. Now, don't get me wrong, I think a good recruiter could come in here and do a great job because we do have a lot to sell. It's just going to be harder right now given the dynamics of our situation. You can personally thank Dan McCarney for loafing on us and RV for being RV for this predicament that we are in.

Kids want to go away to school and some get home sick and come back.  Lets face it part of the college experience is getting away from home and that is something we have to understand.

Sure. TCU and to some regard SMwho doesn't seem to have that problem. UT doesn't have issues locking down Austin area kids. Florida doesn't have issues locking down North Florida area kids. USC doesn't have issues locking down SoCal kids. We can go to the G5...If you follow Marshall recruiting they give WVU a run for their money for some recruits. We can say it's different because it's P5, but is is really? The local kids that USC, Florida, UT, etc. are locking down have other blue bloods around the country head hunting them and they mange to keep a lot of their top kids at home. This is the easy way out of saying that our programs sucks. We can't get kids to stay local because we suck. Plain and simple.

Bad news we will never be USC, Florida, Alabama.  TCU is on a roll right now and SMU I have no idea why you would go there except they have sold an image.  I grew up in El Paso and when I went to college I wanted to go away. When I went to school (smaller then) I knew one person who was from Denton everyone else was from somewhere else.  On Xmas break i see a lot of Texas Tech, Baylor, SFA stickers on cars in town.  It can be done but it is a factor you have to overcome.

Boise State has two players on their team from Boise.

Soon the Littrell high will wear off and we will be back to the same problems with the same AD.

You will thank me in the end.

Bingo!  Our history of losing will not get us many quality recruits out of Denton County.

I agree that the topic can get tiresome, but listen to the latest GMG podcast. The whole thing plays like a strange, beaten, disjointed rebuttal to 90 & UNTJim's criticism. They definitely know he exists.

I've been asked by members of his inner circle if I'm UNT90 while in the club level. He knows I exist, not that I care.

Now you have gotten me curious. I haven't listen because I didn't want to hear the same self-serving drivel.

if you don't want to listen to the entire thing, at least visit the podcast thread and read the portion that @rcade transcribed.

I was very surprised that such a large portion of the interview was focused on rebutting real or perceived criticisms, rather than focusing on building positive momentum based on Littrell's hire. Kinda sad.

Imagine what the narrative is when he talks to the 17. I can only imagine that the majority of the talk is about his "accomplishments" up to this point and the "vision" he has. I can assume that the other half of the conversation is excuse making for losing, scheduling, and pretty much anything that he should accept responsibility for but instead points the finger at whoever he thinks is just. Just thinking about it is disgusting. Smastrek...Waiting on you.

We could be UCF or USF, though.

I live in Florida and have watched both UCF and USF grow in football in circumstances as difficult as those faced by UNT. USF had a run where it was a Top 25 team above all the bigger Florida rivals. UCF has its onfield struggles, but it has a fan base in this state that UNT would kill to have. I see UCF license plates all the time.

I listened to the podcast. So should you. It's pretty clear from RV's comments that he is well aware of what is said on this board, and it appears he reads this message board very often.

Many other sad things in that podcast, with his shoulder shrug toward attendance being the saddest.

The funniest is when he tries to take credit for the fan base's collective anger and spin it that he created an environment where fans care. That, of course, is crap. And he uses a story of interviewing a coach who said "y'all have been losing for 7 years straight, why do fans care now?" Number one, I guess he doesn't see any problem or accept any responsibility for the perception of that coach that we have lost the last 7 years. Second, RV did absolutely nothing to create "an environment where fans care." People were finally just pushed past their limit and couldn't count on the manipulated large donors or the university administration to do anything about RV.

It truly is delusional if that is what the Hattiesburg Hustler really believes. But he is a hustler, so who knows what he really believes. Hell, he may have forgotten by now.
