We are the Rodney Dangerfield of college basketball. Here is a section from an article out of the St,Louis Post Dispatch that I came across today. The story was about Southern Illinois basketball.....

The Salukis started the season 8-1, highlighted by its 95-63 victory at North Texas State. This was their best start since 2006.

Sure, beating the Not So Mean Green aren't a special this season -- North Texas State ranks 301st in the latest CBSSports.com RPI calculation -- but 30-point road victories for SIU have been rare.

Just another kick to the groin for UNT.

Darnit.  I can live with the fact our basketball stinks cause it is true (don't like it one bit though).

But the North Texas State reference really really bothers me the most.  We haven't been North Texas State for 30 years for goodness sake!

It's laziness by older journalists, for the most part.

It's our AD and his ability to market effective and efficient. We are now, according to most articles written, The North Texas State not so-Mean Green. As usual, Thanks, RV.

If that was copied and pasted, then the writer and editor need to do some serious work. That is a terrible...thing...that was written.

Its 2015 and we have been referred to as the North Texas State Fighting Armadillos this season by a former college coach in the NFL now, and then this.

But I bet the composer of the NYC Orchestra knows that we are the University of North Texas, so we got that going for us...

Changing ADs and SIDs will do little to stop this from happening.  Besides, all they can do is email the writer and complain about using a name we haven't gone by in over 30 years.

No. There is more that can be done.

Such as ... ?

Bring it up via radio interviews.....TV interviews.....social media.....have our top officials tweet commentators during games when they botch our name.....of course send the emails as you stated....Start a UNT campaign "We are #UNT"......a meaningless, emotionless email from our SID to some second hand assistant to the editor obviously isn't getting the job done. I don't work for UNT, it is not my job to press the issue. Whoever's job it is, isn't doing their job...apparently.

I disagree. Too many inaccuracies are repeated in broadcasts that it's far more likely the SID or athletic department isn't doing anything to help commentators prep.

New blood can't be worse than what we have in there now...

TV/Radio interviews are nice for the locals but how does that solve the current problem where a journalist up in St. Louis used the wrong name? Again, the best everyone involved with the university can do is tweet/email the guy and inform him of his error.

I'm pretty sure our SID hands out a UNT Fact Sheet to all press, including your TV broadcasters and maybe even visiting team radio callers in an effort to make sure everyone is putting everything out correctly. It falls on the individual broadcasters to get it right. If the ESPN or Fox Sports guys get it wrong, it's really egg on their face as they didn't do all that was required to be ready.

Well....let me tell you....IT"S NOT WORKING!!! Therefore, other measures must be taken. How about that.

It's UNT doing nothing to change their minds with on field performance.

The last time UNT was relevant, they were North Texas State. That's why people still use that name.

After 15 years, thanks RV.

Winning.

But that isn't important, right?

Then he goes back to his office and gets back on Twitter to ask DT what he's wearing today.   Capper could leave today and I'd be just fine with that.

His farewell tweet will surely be something along the lines of insulting both DT and the fans who didn't appreciate DT enough.

I guarantee you that if we were 10-0 and had beaten Southern Illinois instead of gotten crushed. The writer would have known it was the UNT and not North Texas State. You have to earn people's respect at home and across the country. UNTJIM1995 is right. They never call us North Texas State when writing about the One o'clock Lab Band. They have earned that respect. Now we need to in athletics.

if we were 10-0, we certainly wouldn't be called the "not-so-Mean Green" either.   Totally agree.

Unfortunately, I bet we'd still be North Texas State.

Two of our three of our NCAA bids came as UNT.

This is the real story.  We'll continue to be disrespected until we earn respect.
