Coach Littrell seems to have so many coaching contacts, I wonder if a perfect storm is brewing for the Mean Green Nation?  Harrell is on board, a wide receiver coach is on board, two highly touted quarterbacks are available, one who can play in 2016, another who would sit out a year.  Our new coach could be a magnet for more up and coming coaches who may want to prove that they have what it takes to move a down and out football program like ours to a level never seen before.  Unleash these coaches on the recruiting trail and we could be amazed.  This could  all be happening right before our eyes.

I woke up 12 hours ahead on the clock on Friday morning AFG time to see this wonderful piece of news. It seems like we're literally tired of F%#king around and committing to success. Young, up and coming coaches that have tasted success before yet are still youthful enough to talk to recruits in the living room. I can't help but ask the question of where are we getting this money from? If the 17 are making this happen, good on them.

I can't help but think this is kind of like when Mark Cuban bought the Mavericks and started changing things. Anyone else get that vibe?

I'm still gonna wait for the DC hire and the rest of the staff to fill out before I get too excited.

I'm looking forward to the drastic change on offense though.

So agree with this.  I've yet to see a head coach who has any inkling of understanding that there are two sides to the football.  It's all in one way or the other, but never both.  Really not interested in watching us lose 87-76 every week.  Then again, this seems to be the way college football do anymore.  Defense seems to be an afterthought across the entire spectrum of FBS.

It's nice to have something to get excited about, but keep in mind that Mac wrecked this program with poor (being generous) recruiting. It's very probable that the next season or two will be pretty rough.

Yeah it is an exciting time. Harry touched on this before, but how Mac turned a strength(our walk-on program) into a recruiting crutch(I think something like 27 of our players are/were walk-ons) was a middle finger to the program. I think scheme more than anything will turn us around, but it might hit a few rough patches with our overall lack of talent.

Agreed. I'm giddy that we're spending borderline AAC-cash on the program right now. We will be top of CUSA in salaries, etc easily. Clearly we aren't messing around anymore. Don't know where this cash is coming from but bathe me in it, let's Go Mean Green!

It's certainly a new investment.  Wonder if Smatresk is shaking new hands.  RV has his guys ("the 17"), but I wonder if an influx is coming from new donors.

Yeah, but there are still plenty of CUSA schools paying Todd Dodge like money. UTSA wouldn't even have been in the Littrell conversation paying $250k.

Per USA Today, for CUSA, I see (in thousands):

Rice: $805

Marhsall: $758

North Texas (McCarney): $721

Southern Miss: $700

Western Kentucky: $613

Fla Int.: $605

Charlotte: $600

Old Dominion: $565

Fla. Atl: $525

La. Tech: $517

UTEP: $514

UTSA: $427

I think it's safe to say we just took the #1 spot in the conference.  Not sure why UTSA is so low other than Larry Coker probably doesn't care, but the disparity tells me that we are bringing in the donor money.

Obviously, no one knows whats brewing until it happens.  However, it is way past time for NT football to be successful.  New coaches always bring new hope, but this hire is a lot more than that for NT.   I think the McCarney hire, no matter how it ended, was a big step up in terms of commitment to the program.   The Littrell hire is a big step up from the McCarney hire.

I agree NT may have made the perfect hire.  No hc experience is a concern, think Jerry Moore, Darrell Dickey. and Matt Simon.  However, Tyler and McCarney had a lot of experience and they were total disasters.

It is interesting that the hire apparently has not impressed most non-NT CUSA teams' fans.   None think of NT much more than a joke in the major sports at the present time.   If I were a knowledgable CUSA fan, I just might take note that downtrodden NT has just hired one of the most promising young coaches in the country and will probably have the best paid football staff in the conference.

It is time for other CUSA teams to take NT a lot more serious.  NT has always had some big advantages in location and size.  Now, NT has demonstrated they have the resources and the desire to move up in the collegian football world.  Too early for CUSA to be afraid of NT, but they should be concerned.

sorry, no new. Rv got the new ones on board this spring.

Did he get them on board to buy out Benford? Something that should have occurred 3 years ago?

I wonder when they will get tired of throwing good money after bad with a terrible AD.

Where is MTSU?? I saw they pay their coach $1 million...we might still surpass that but it'll be close.

Like I said, it was per USA Today. I just did a sort for CUSA and copied the data to here.

Haha, I can read. I am not asking you directly, it was more of a rhetorical question and addressing your own comment saying we'll be ahead in C-USA, which might not be the case.

The team hasn't even played a down yet and people want to cling to some idea that "the perfect storm" is brewing? Let's at least have the level headedness to let the man do his job and evaluate the results when you know, the results are shown on the field. Crazy idea huh?

Screw you for pissing on optimism. For once, it seems like we're doing the right thing from a hiring standpoint. The collective community needed something to get excited about. Let people get excited.
