I'm a little weary about coaches who go from coordinators to assistants. At least he is still young and maybe he just wasn't the right guy at Nebraska. He even had a FB group set-up by Nebraska fans wanting him fired..

Also, check out this thread. His defense gave up the FBS rushing record.

He didn't get fired. His head coach got fired after 7 consecutive seasons of 9+ wins. He had to seek employment elsewhere.

Then why couldn't he get a DC gig at even a G5 school? How much are they paying him at North Carolina I wonder. Still stats like giving up record rushing yards don't sound good. Nebraska was never known for their defense. They had some pretty brutal 60+ point blowouts while he was there, along with some decent defensive games.

It's called a Market. If there are no coordinator spots at a desirable school you take a position job and wait for your next destination.  Coaching is a lot like the car industry (only two things I know) when a new boss comes in he usually brings his guys in.  You can't stay where you are replaced by someone else's guy.

Even though I defended the guy a bit,, I agree with you. He is much better than Cosh but I think we could find a better fit for NT.

Bold 2016 prediction: Cosh stays and defense improves

bahaha I don't think I've ever seen unt90 gain this much notoriety over a comment.

Figured it was funny since it's assumed he's not coming back after fielding the worst UNT defense ever (only one way to go?).

Guess it was too soon.

In the words of Mr. The Cable Guy, Lord I apologize.

Still funny tho.

How about Brian Mitchell.  Currently the cornerbacks coach at West Virginia so he wouldn't come cheap...

Coached with Littrell at Texas Tech... he was there from 2006-2009.  Perhaps he would be willing to be a DC to move up if the money was right?  Hails from Waco.

He was Ruffin's choice for DC when he took over at ECU in 2010.  Canned after 2 years after he transitioned his defense to a 3-4 scheme and was gashed badly.

Burton had one of the hardest hits I have ever seen when he played for the Cowboys.  Just lit up a Rams WR coming across the middle.

were both feet off the ground?

did he lead with his helmet or shoulder?

do you have any grainy stills of the hit?

Noticed that this guy has been liking some of the tweets about Littrell coming to North Texas

I would actually be very intrigued.   He has quite a bit of experience and is coaching under Dantonio now, so you know he's getting top defensive mentoring.

Tons of D-1 DL/LB coaching experience and played LB in the NFL.  Find a nice complimentary guy (maybe co-DC) to coach the secondary and I think we're on to something here.

Good point. Let's just go pay Ruffin $400k-$500k and be done with it.

Our defense was not good, but hardly the worst ever. I believe Mendoza gets that honor.

You'd be wrong, the worst NT defense in history was 2008 under DeLoach.

We gave up 41.3 ppg this season. We gave up 45.1 under Mendoza in '07 and the winner and still champ is Deloach in '08 with our record high of 47.6 ppg. '08 was the Rice season. If you don't know what I'm talking about when I say Rice season, you didn't have to sit through that garbage.

Ain't going to happen but we could dream.  Remember, we don't really want a revolving door.  We want someone who is interested in tying their knot to Litrell on  the way up the food chain.

I just want a return to our historically hard hitting defense.  We may have lost here and there, but NT was always known as a team that would knock your pecker in the dirt.  I want a return to that attitude.
