why is this non sense constantly repeated on here...if this were the case we would have a bunch of tall scrubs at QB because Mccarney forced chico to find 6'4 QBs.  Just because a coach PREFERS or WANTs ideal measurable does not mean that's all he is looking at or considering.  We have several qbs that does not meet mac's requirement of mobile and tall.  Even the one he picked.

 

It's not nonsense and every program has height & size requirements for every single position. That's a known fact. They will stray based on talent & need. Obviously, NT has QB's that fall below this standard but I can guarantee you the QB that hovered around 6' didn't even get a sniff out of high school by this program. Hell for that matter, probably must FBS schools passed on that type of QB. That worked out well for NT didn't it? Starting a D2 QB in McNulty, not FCS, D2.

and the sad part is that the QB that mac picked may have been the best one.  The ones that chico was responsible for couldn't beat out mcnulty...let's pretend that chico had no say so in none of the qbs on the roster.  As a qb coach, he should be able to get someone to look better than mcnulty.  And I know from a solid source he picked means.

I will always appreciate Chico's love for our university.  It is truly uncommon for a coach to experience very little success and yet make Denton his home and grow to love the program.

He desperately wants to lead a program so I was hoping an FCS school with an opening at HC might give him a look.

Wherever he ends up, I join the rest rooting for his success.

So conveniently since DT had talent his improvement was due to just hard work and no coaching?  but the other QB's lack of improvement is Chico's fault?

 

DT was the only quarterback of the McCarney era to have been coached by Dodge. He was recruited by Dodge and coached by Dodge for 2 years. Dodge is well known as a great quarterback coach. I'd say DT's ability and success were more a result of Dodge than Chico. Every qb that Chico touched without Dodge around turned to garbage or was that way in the first place.

If Mac really only wanted 6'4" plus QBs then some some of UNT's best QBs, such as Mitch Maher, never would have played. Hell, Brett Favre, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Russell Wilson, Johnny Manziel, ect couldn't play here if that were the case.

I think one thing is glowingly obvious. Chico is a good man. He is well respected and liked as a person but he was a contributor to the state of this football team being a total disaster. I was really really disappointed in him when he didn't try his hardest (by not playing starters) to send these players out with a win against an opponent we recruit against. I really do wish him the best and like him as a person but he has to be accountable for his part in the disasterous state of our team.

      What's the appeal of Carthel? Honest question. I don't follow FCS closely, but it seems like every time a position opens up at UNT people on the board want Carthel to fill it. I see he won the NCAA Division II championship in 2017 and has an overall record of 89–48 which are both impressive. However, his run at SFA from a W/L perspective looks similar to Seth's at UNT in that he built up the program in a few years, but he seems to be plateauing over the past few years. I'd love to hear more about what the advocates see in him and why he'd be a good fit for UNT specifically.

      Odus Mitchell - What Exactly are Too High Standards at UNT?

I love the legend of Mean Joe anyone under 50 can remember seeing prime NFL Mean Joe playing. There is no Joe Greene in a North Texas uniform without Odus Mitchell. We have low expectations because with dismiss what Mitchell showed us was possible here. Heaps of excuses and disgruntled fans attacking each other on our board. Odus Mitchell is the kind of "Old Denton" I want. And MAYBE if we truly honored him properly and consistently as the MOST IMPORTANT FIGURE in Mean Green Football history we could knock off some of the negative karma. The Mean Joe Coke commercial is cute but is never something remotely associated with UNT Football without Mitchell rebuilding the program from WWII hiatus, winning, integrating CFB in Texas, and bringing Mean Joe to Denton. Hayden Fry doesn't have enough in Denton to come and rescue without Mitchell. How this program has underachieved for 20 years is an insult to his legacy imo. I wasn't alive for his tenure and likely you weren't either. But legacy is about what you can read about when there aren't cute videos!
