I would like to see us add positions related to high school recruiting in DFW

Unless you are a College of Music grad.  All we really need is for our sports programs to gain the respect that our music programs have.  And no, Ben and them, you don't throw out your best program in some weirdly construed plan to do better by your stepchildren.

I will say it is mighty fine to be employed by the College you love and in turn loved you back.

Hiring someone who is passionate about North Texas and North Texas athletics? Hmmm, sounds like a great idea to me. Who better to be able to give the coaches the most up to date information about our school and what it has to offer recruits.

AND who better to be able to set the record straight about misconceptions  about North Texas.

Houston has a Director of Recruiting, an Assistant Director of Recruiting and a Director of High School relations. All we have is a WR coach/Recruiting Coordinator. That is ridiculous! We need someone out making calls on high schools full-time. He could make 3 solid calls a day: morning athletic period at one school, lunch at another then afternoon athletic period at a third school. You could get someone real good to do this for $100k. If we're cheap, we could probably get by with $75k. Would be a great entry level job for a GA who needs promoting or a good job for a high school coach looking to move into college. It is a sin against our natural recruiting resources that we don't have someone doing this for the football program.

Where do you apply? Make over $75 a year and be a part of the UNT football team? Sounds like a bucket list job to me......Littrell give me a call at 555-555-2028

Anyone know what the actual duties of these non-coaching positions.  I don't think they actually recruit, so what are their functions.

My guess would be that they do a lot of scheduling and act as a liaison between the coaches and high schools/parents. Probably a lot of maintaining spreadsheets of current and future evaluations, booking flights, and ensuring the coaches follow-up on outstanding emails/calls. Essentially a project coordinator.

Which almost certainly means they're paid less than $40k/yr.
$75-100k/yr?!?  HA!

Edit: After some research, $75-100k is probably right now. HS coaches average in the $80s and $90s now, so it's probably in that neighborhood. The girls probably make $50-60k.

We keep saying we need to recruit better in our own backyard.  We hear high school coaches saying we never visit them.  Why not pay someone a decent salary and provide them a car and gas and have them spend their ENTIRE job scouring the area high schools with a North Texas presence.  Think outside the box.  Set reasonable goals and hold people accountable. It doesn't have to be Littrell at every high school but if we had someone representing North Texas wearing our gear it could make a lasting impression.

Yep.

its amazing what a little presence does to young high school kids.

And anybody that says no to you and the Mean Green, do you just say "Nope.  GTFO"?

Ben Gooding would be a fine addition to our athletic department right now. RV would probably have him deal with everyone but about 17 donors.

We need to make this happen, ASAP.

I'm not saying to hire a PROJECT COORDINATOR. We don't need another secretary. I want to hire a Director of Recruiting to go out, make calls and be a bad a*s. We need someone, probably with a football background (recent college player or high school coach looking to move up) to go out every day and build relationships with high school players, parents, coaches and administrators. That should be the overwhelming majority of their job. To get someone who could do this successfully, you would need to pay $75k to $100k a year. I guarantee you that is what SMU and Houston are paying their guys and way less than the P5's pay. I would also suggest some form of deferred compensation, such as $X bonus if a player you recruited is on the conference All-freshman team and another bonus if your recruit makes first or second team all-conference. The deferred compensation can also be used as a golden handcuff to keep a successful recruiter as the bonus is only paid out if you are still on staff at North Texas, etc. There are a million ways to structure it, but bottom line is we need to incentivize and reward successful recruiting.

Again, I don't think anyone but a coach can actually recruit a player.
