I like the Gate 3 idea because of the relative locations of the Alumni Pavillion and the walkway from the pedestrian bridge. Second choice would be the Gate 4 location. JMO.

I suggest that we fly a banner over the stadium at our first 2016 home game asking for donations.

Haha, why has no one thought of something so brilliant before?

Is this a real thing? Is so.. OUT-FUCKING-STANDING!

This is something that should have been done long ago

This, I completely agree with.  I've wondered before why we don't have a statue anywhere around the stadium, but the fact that so many people seem immediately on-board is phenomenal.

The obvious answer is: the One O'Clock Lounge.

What made Mean Joe so great wasn't just his ability on the field... It was his overall engagement with the school and all our wonderful programs. The only thing meaner than Joe Greene the defensive lineman was Joe Greene the clarinetist.

When he wasn't in the classroom, hitting the books, or on the field, hitting a helpless o-lineman... Mean Joe was kicking it in the lounge, practicing his clarinet. And I've always been amazed that he never took a break at halftime of a game. While the rest of the players went in the tunnel for a rest, Mean Joe just threw on that band uniform (and back in the good old days, they wore the full wool even if it was a thousand degrees!) and high-stepped it in the halftime show.

He may not have been the best musician in school history, but he was arguably the most passionate and dedicated one. When you consider what a major impact he made on the music program... It's no wonder that we nicknamed the band after him: The Greene Brigade!

So the statue should be of him in a t-shirt and khaki shorts.

If we're already burning space on the plaque around the Mean Green moniker not being his namesake, we may as well include this integral truth as well.

Actually a fairly valid consideration...let me see if I can change the options.

Since Mean Joe made such an impact here at UNT, why not make an immediate impact on people visiting the building for the first time with the face of your football program.

Hey, nothing is set in stone yet.

Get it!?!  Because it's a statue, you see...hqdefault.jpg

This is why I'm for Gate 3 or Gate 4. On gameday, these locations would receive the most traffic from the "young minds filled with mush", and those are the people that need to be exposed and reminded of Joe's legacy at UNT. JMO.

I think this brings up a few issues for me related to the general "flow" of the game day experience.   Here are things I would like to see.

1. Marching Band plays on the floor of the Super Pit starting 90 minutes before kickoff (20 minute jam session/mini pep rally)

2. Band marches out of the Super Pitt across the Fouts Field and start playing "Fly Like a Eagle" the second the first member of the band reaches the bridge ramp (wish the bridge was little wider)

3. Band marches past an improved walkway between the Alumni Pavilion and the circular walkway on the south east side of the stadium 2 laps around the circle then into the stadium.

The areas outside of Apogee could use a little tweaking to encourage contact between current students, alumni, and band and the Joe Greene statue should be a center point of that meeting point.
