One of the biggest shocks that you will have to deal with is going from this culture..

to not even close.

That's the bad news. The good news is that, other than instilling a winning attitude in your team, it's not your job to change the game day CULTURE at North Texas.

That would be the responsibility of the man and his staff that has been around here for 15 years.

WELCOME TO UNT AND...

GO MEAN GREEN!!!

-1 me all you want, but this has been Coach Littrell's playing and coaching experience regarding game day.,,

NC State.....averages 54398 per home game

Indiana........averages 41657 per home game

Arizona........averages 50710 per home game

Texas Tech...averages 58934 per home game

Kansas (ga)....averages 34077 per game

Silver, do you recall the crowds growing during the 2014 season?   The people who paid to come to the HoD bowl are also going to be willing to show up at Apogee... to watch a winner.   And every year, the 1st game of the season is always heavily-attended because of optimism.  It only goes downhill when we start losing.

We're thirsty for a winner.   And if you've lived in DFW for any amount of time, you know the bandwagon gets full when you're a winner and is barren when you're losing (unless you're talking about the Cowboys).

Just win.  The crowds/support will happen.

If he gets UNT to 11-1, playing for a CUSA championship, the 31,000+ SRO crowd at Apogee will be the loudest thing you've ever heard.

....in Denton.

I want him to set the goal of winning to the point that North Texas will have to expand the stadium. But I want him to clearly understand what the main challenge will be in selling new recruits................recruits that are difference makers BTW.

BTW, since you mentioned SRO, when was the last time there was an SRO crowd in Denton for a NT game?

The fortunate reality of this is that he might actually be able to do this. The unfortunate reality of this is that if he does it will be his last game at UNT.

*If he does that we have to break the bank to keep him here granted there has been a good trend in recruiting and quality players on his current recruiting board. We can't pull another Mccarney. But I couldn't argue with a 3 year 9M dollar extension after a 12-1 NYE bowl season IF everything looks to be in line for longevity.

Does anyone really think that any new HC is coming to NT blind?  McCarney knew the situation at NT, he just thought that he would be able to turn it around.  It was only after failure that he discovered the dismal culture at NT.

I am sure Littrell is aware of what he signed up for just as McCarney was.  The question is does he have the answers that McCarney could not come up with.  He already has a couple of pluses.  Relative youth for a HC, and an offense more closely aligned with most Texas high schools.

I think NT is far from the coaches graveyard that many think.  It is a perfect situation for the right coach.  Huge school in one of the most prosperous parts of the nation, as good a recruiting area as there is, a winnable conference, good football stadium with adequate other football facilities, and overall necessary resources to excel in CUSA.  Add that NT football is at a point were few are going to expect miracles and any success is going to establish his name among the top young coaches.

McCarney came here thinking that he could flash his rings around and talk about national championships, and kids would be begging to sign on the dotted line. After all, this is DFW! When that didn't happen, he never really figured out how to actually recruit.

You're likely correct.   And that's OK.  We don't need to be afraid.  That will just make our program an appealing one for his replacement.
Do you think a guy like Lincoln Riley would have looked a little harder at NT if we were coming off a WKU-type season?
