Western Kentucky who consistently wins in almost everything in their conference.  This school is a prime example that NT could and should be successful.  

Yeah but remember not too long ago they were riding a very long conference losing streak in the belt.. All it takes is the right coach.

Even then - they won in every other sport.

 Anyhow, I really miss us getting to play the men with goats in football every year.

we had our super long losing streak during our transition to fbs and our first year eligible.  this makes 5 years in a row with 7 or more wins (under 3 different coaches).  5 years in a row of 7 or more wins doesn't sound that impressive until you see how small that group actually is.

i got to catch every home game of course and also vandy and fiu on the road.  this was a very good football team.  everyone knows about doughty and the offense but our defense improved every week of the season.  from one of the worst defenses in the country last year to a very serviceable dee with the offense we had.

it looks like we may be able to keep coach brohm for at least another year.  most of the 'sexy' jobs are gone for now.  i can't see him being interested in an ecu type job but could be wrong.  he turned down memphis and ucf which are similar moves.  

we do lose doughty but our entire o-line returns (i thought it was the best in the league this year).  our top 2 receivers are back and we're loaded at that position anyway.  our top 2 running backs return.  word is leon allen is even going to return so that'll be a crowded backfield.  mike white who started as a freshman and sophomore at USF sat out this year shadowing Doughty and learning the playbook.  we also have a txfer from Louisville in here.  QB is up for grabs.  but with a former qb like Brohm as head coach I'll feel confident with whoever he rolls out there.  

we take some hits on dee so that'll be a question mark for sure.

I'm trying to make myself feel better about our current situation but its not very comparable. Indeed, we do not have the excuse of transitioning to FBS, although sometimes it feels like we are still making that transition. Very impressive what you guys have been able to do in only 7 years of FBS in both basketball and football.

And yet their facilities are atrocious.

Wonder what the winning common denominator is with them...

You may be thinking of La Tech... WKU has a great basketball arena, a nice facility for football and baseball, a relatively new athletics center with hydrotherapy and other amenities on par with what we were so proud to build here... WKU is in pretty nice shape as far as architecture goes, I think.

Even then - they won in every other sport.

Their Tennis Team Sucks and did not even have a Full-time Coach, before leaving the Belt, but they have solid teams in every other sport

TIL. I was more speaking to football though; every time I see L.T.Smith stadium on TV all I can think is "ew, gross."

      2025 DC Wish List

      We will need to connect some dots for a potential new DC hire (assuming the interim doesn't get it). First, Caponi had no apparent Texas connections. He was a career defensive asst position coach at several schools, and lastly a CB coach at Iowa State, before being elevated to DC at UNT. He did have some DC time at a Dlll school in 2008-10, but nothing since. Was he elevated too fast? https://meangreensports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/matt-caponi/731 Does Morris have a short-list already? Probably. It's not like everyone didn't know there needed to be a change in DC for some time coming. Here are some starting criteria: -The new DC "should" have previous FCS or FBS DC experience...so a repeat learning-curve doesn't happen. -Texas ties for recruiting would be bonus points. -For a quick hire, I expect it to be someone Morris is already familiar with, no interview needed, only $ negotiated. -Are 2-year contracts a thing for Coordinators in FBS? If not, One-year only please, until we establish confidence. So, with all that in mind: -Find some FCS DCs that Morris worked with somewhere else. -A DC on an FBS staff where the HC has already been fired, or soon will be, but they had a good Defense! (a new HC will bring his own staff in). -A former head coach that has been recently recycled back thru DC to try again.
