How do they do it with no FCS or pre head coaching experience. ..

How do they do it?  They mostly serve as assistants on successful teams prior to taking over when their head coach moves on.

Of the 13* head coaches that are currently coaching a top 25 team who had never been a head coach before ...only Stoops, Herman and Rhule did what we're hoping Littrell can do......arrive from someplace else and take over someone else's program and build it to the top 25.

*----Gary Patterson served as a head coach for a defunct professional league that was 10 days away from kicking off before the plug was pulled on the whole thing back in the 90's.

So P5 schools don't hire coordinators as often. Not sure how that equates to our situation. One can also look at the long list of coaches that were successful at other schools and were not a good fit once they moved up. Call up Tennessee and see how that worked for them with some of their past hires. These people weren't born a college head coach, someone gave them a chance. We can be that someone.

Exactly....it doesn't......but ask that question to the guy that started this thread.  Maybe he can somehow explain it to ya how he thinks it does?

this post was directed to the people who think if a coach doesn't have FCS head coaching experience or some other head coaching experience he can't win at UNT.

Yes I know, and despite NO ONE making that claim it doesn't disprove or invalidate concerns by those who wanted an experience guy over someone who has never assembled a staff and been spoonfed top recruits.

You are thinking about this wrong.  They have resources and can afford to make the wrong hire until they get it right.  Let's use OU as an example.  Stoops was their fourth coach after Switzer.  They paid until they got it right. They can

I feel the same kind of trepidation as well Rick (especially defensively), but the reason the optimism is there with this guy is because his offenses have not disappointed anywhere he's been. He's certainly a risk-reward type of guy, but his trajectory is certainly upward so far, wouldn't you agree?
And when it comes to being spoon-fed top recruits, I would say he's been coaching in the dredges of each conference he's been in... Arizona isnt getting the same recruits USC/Oregon, heck, even AZSt just up the road...  Indiana?  B-ball school, perennial B1G cellar-dweller...  UNC is not getting top recruits for their conference either, yet look at the game they're about to play!   He just happened to get the best out of the talent at these places, and help them improve.   I think he'll be able to recruit competitively at the C-USA level.

Another good point, and I hope your right.
