Don Vito....  so, what is going on?  I bet you are getting mad clicks with all this flip floppin going on out there...  I'll hang up and listen...

This tells me a few things:

1. "Two industry sources said that UNT would likely not hire Meacham, including one who said a lot would have to change for UNT to head in that direction"

That to me means that its either a money or contract years issue with Meacham and the two sides are not close. We have probably moved on and are focusing on Littrell.

2. "A source close to Littrell suggested that the sides have already discussed parameters of a contract, one that could be ready to be finalized"

This probably means Littrell's agent is ironing out the deal while Seth is back in North Carolina gameplanning. Once the deal is agreed to in principal I believe the BOR has to approve which means we will likely see an emergency meeting called to approve money.

This is probably just a negotiating ploy by UNT. They don't want it to seem like Littrell is the only guy left. His agent could use that to drive up the price quiet a bit.

I think we should just relax..

Absolutely. More than likely things are being finalized between North Texas and Littrell's agents on the details of a contract. Also, we want to respect the current situation at UNC, and not cause distractions or headaches over there while trying to gameplan and prepare for the #1 team in the country.

I would expect Littrell to react the same way Lincoln Riley did if he were not a candidate.   Meacham obviously is/was or he would react the same way as well.

Sucks we couldn't convince Riley.  He should have been the OC here back in 2009 when he was jobless, but Dodge hired Canales instead.  Hindsight = 20/20.  Sigh.

The more I read this statement, the more it sounds like his announcement is based on Littrell's plans.

“Because of the nature of the people we have talked to, we have a schedule we have to work with. We are still in the process. That is all I can say.”

Because of the nature of the people we have talked to...

Doesn't that sound like, "We don't want to screw with his current gig"?

Maybe I am reading too much into it, but that's all we can do now!

And if Littrell kicks Clemson's asses up and down the field on Saturday...  are we sitting around waiting while we hang our hopes on one guy that appears to be in demand by schools that are more attractive than us?

Unless they throw $2M plus at him or move their program to Texoma, they aren't more attractive.

Hells, damns and craps.  If we're respecting him by waiting 'til UNC's done, he better be respecting us by having already agreed to a deal that he can't get out of.

This is what scares me. Getting left at the alter.

I would think, they would have Meach as the plan B?  I am torn on who to pull for on Saturday.  Part of me wants to see him blow Clemson away, the other side of me is hoping Clemson pulls it out late...

My nightmare is that some BIG program has stated, IF you defeat Clemson we will offer you X.... however, the bigger ones are starting to fill up their dance cards.

Shirley, they have some type of intent to contract or something in place or they would not have let Meach off the hook.

Here is the way this works.

He gives his agent contract parameters. Agent and Pres. Smatresk or Smatresk's rep (cause RV ain't sniffing this thing) work out the details while Litrell focuses on coaching. Deal gets hammered out. Phone conference where both parties agree followed by UNT rep flying to Chapel Hill to get the JH on the contract. Announcement set by both parties for Sunday or Monday of next week.

Hopefully the contract is already signed since the second choice has already been snubbed.

The scary part is what if UNC beats Clemson?  Zach Barnett stated this:

Should North Carolina reach the Playoff, Fedora would more than likely expect Littrell to stay on board through the end of the Heels’ run.

exactly maybe the deal is already done and rv and president are trying to be respectful to UNC before their biggest football game in school history.

Didn't Tom Herman go through that last year with OSU? He was putting a staff together as he worked with the team. The staff can hit the ground running. Besides, how cool would it sound to a recruit that his potential HC is off playing for a national championship?
