If Meacham was gonna be the guy we would have heard something by now. Something solid would have leaked. TCU's regular season is over. Meacham would have told his current players goodbye and they would have Tweeted about it. Plus, UNT would have announced the hire to make all the local Sunday night sports specials and Monday morning drive news cycle, especially since there isn't a  Cowboy game to compete with in the current news cycle.

In my opinion, the hire won't be announced until UNC is officially out of the playoff hunt.

New coach will be announced Monday. It will be Meach.

It could end up being Meacham, but my sources indicate there are still four finalists and nothing is a done deal. My opinion is the longer this drags out the more it points to Littrell.

I hope you are correct, but this is RV we are talking about.

It's not dragging out. The time frame has always been Mon - Tues announcement.

Honestly, I think the whole "mystery candidate" idea is just a failsafe being propagated by RV's minions in case a strong P5 swoops in and picks off Littrell and Meacham. In that case, RV can say New UNT Coach X was the mystery candidate and our first choice all along. 

And let me say I am being told there are still four candidates, but I believe it is going to come down to  Littrell or Meacham (assuming they would accept it).

Interesting, I am being told that RV has literally no hand in this coaching decision other than a figurehead to make press announcements. It would still  play out.

Meacham is too classy... TCU still has bowl game... He has time for goodbyes.

Unfortunately I have to agree.  RV doesn't grasp how important it is to do everything in your power to manipulate the local media that has so many sports stories to cover.  Well I am guessing he doesn't grasp it, he may not care.  Either way just another example of... I will let you complete the thought.

this isn't about class. It's about recruiting and making over a mil a year... He and anyone else will start asap.

THat's assuming a very competent Athletic Department. We barely can fill our revenue sports venues so I doubt we'd be able to deftly handle this announcement to get maximum publicity.

Correct. Littrell is not going to leave his team before a conference championship game, but it is the standard in coaching that if you take a promotion, you leave after the regular season and conference championship has been decided. No bowl game coaching.

See Justin Fuentes leaving Memphis before their bowl. I think he should have held out for a better P5 job, by the way.

      Surrendering ourselves to a G5 playoff would be disastrous. It would give the P4 all the ammo they need to effectively remove the automatic bid for the highest ranked G5 champ. The correct solution, in today's environment, is to maintain the automatic G5 bid for the main playoffs and have a mixed G5/P4 NIT style tournament as Pernetti suggested. Don't take, add. Wouldn't be a bad idea to allocate future "NIT" and playoff spots per conference based on their previous performances. They do this in Europe for their European tournaments. Each league gets a coefficient rating based on the previous 5 years performance in European competitions. Not performing? You lose spots. Performing? You gain spots. So you know, the ACC going 1-9 so far, the Big12 going 2-7 back in 2022, the SEC going 6-8 and ACC going 2-4 both in 2021 would have some affect on that rating and future potential spots in the playoffs and NIT. No reason the ACC should get 2 spots next year considering this year's playoffs. The rating would just ensure transparency.

      Because the ever present lie of “we could be next” keeps G5 athletic directors, coaches, and fan bases docile. Keep the system just shy of outright exclusion of G5 programs and you can slowly strip away access while claiming that wasn’t the plan all along. It’s why the Power Ball lottery is so popular. Even though the chances of winning are exponentially small for everyone (the G5 programs), everyone will point to that one lady in a far off trailer park (Boise) who hit it big!

      Women at Wichita State (12/29/24)

      Time to see how good or bad this conference is. The women (8-4) travel north to face Wichita State (6-7) in the AAC opener. We beat the Lady Shockers in Denton last year, 72-68. At 8-4, the women are tied with ECU for third best nonconference record in the league. Only UTSA (9-2) and UAB (9-3) are better. However, at 17-7, UNT has the best combined men's and women's basketball record of any program in the AAC. Game is at 1pm on ESPN+.
