Of the names thrown around, what coaches would you fear the most if they suddenly showed up as head coaches of CUSA opponents?

Fritz, Withers, Babers, Thomsen, Applewhite, etc. ???

Will our new head coach send shivers up the collective spines of other CUSA coaches?

No other CUSA openings at this time. Just about all of those guys listed will be going P5. I think either of our candidates will frighten the other CUSA coaches once they see our improvement on offense.

Nope, because it is not about the coach it is about the program.  No first time Division I head coach is going to strike fear into the rest of the conference because of the state of the program now except someone with a family name like Briles.  The Athletic Department Leadership at Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, and Rice are sleeping well tonight because they unlike many in this forum can look objectively at this program and conclude it will be a 3 year process under the best case scenario.  Stealing Skip Holtz from Louisiana Tech would only thing that would strike fear in the rest of CUSA.  "Oh Crap they finally realized that they are biggest school in CUSA west division in the most populous metro area and they just don't want to be competitive they want to dominate it" -  Various CUSA Athletic Directors

two years ago the Techsters wanted Holtz's head.  He went out and landed a stud transfer one year QB and did it again this season.  If we can land a decent QB we can compete in C-USA.  Again, why would Holtz's come here when he already is at a G5 and will have p5 offers next season if not sooner?  Why do you continue to require the impossible to be satisfied as a fan? You know damn well Holtz's doesn't need to come to UNT.

i think either of these two guys will strike fear from an offensive perspective compared to the boring run offense Mac had.  The key will be on the recruiting trail.  That to me is the key.  There needs to be a plan and hopefully they will bring in assistants who have a track record and contacts in recruiting.  They also need to organize and incentivize the staff to emphasize recruiting results!  No more of your top paid assistants who don't/can't  recruit.  Those days are over.

The only way either of these guys will strike fear is if they find some better groceries. We don't have a QB capable of running what they want. Not sure we have enough good WRs either.

Also we won't be able to out score other teams if we don't at least find a DC who is FBS worthy

Great point Harry.  The Latech boards were lit up calling for Holtz to be fired.  Unimaginative offense was one of the points that was harped on over and over.  Amazing how when the same plays suddenly work, the perception changes.

I respectfully disagree. Although the program has a lot of weight but that matters little in my mind. Its all about the coach that is hired and what kind of impact he can make on the program. I think our team is full of young talent but it just needs to be nurtured and the new coach, if he can grow this team will make an impact by his 2nd year. On top of the possibility of him molding the young talent we already have, if he can recruit, we will be a force to be reckoned with no later than year 3. Those are a lot of "IF'S" though.

If you look at SMU and Morris, SMU was a laughable program until they went out and hired Morris. Although, he didnt make an immediate impact that most people thought he would but he has been buring up the recruiting world and that conference will start to take notice shortly. Also, Check out Willie Fritz at Georgia Southern, they dont have any bit of Tradition but Fritz managed to pull in decent recruits and is sitting at 7-3 right now and after only being there two years.

If we make a great hire, the C-USA West will take immediate notice. You damn right UTEP, UTSA, Rice will be scared only due to the fact that our facilities are 2nd to non and we will start to pull better recruits if we get a recruiter in here and we will start beating them on a regular basis. LA Tech and USM wont be immediately scare but they will two years from now once (If) our Coach gets settled in here.

First time FBS level head coaches don't have that kind of "weight".  And UNT are those places.  Georgia Southern has FCS national championships.   How many does UNT have?  Oh that is right you have to win a FCS playoff game to win the FCS National Championship.  Oh, sorry there I go citing fac..... I mean being negative.  Harry delete my account please.
