In one final middle finger to UNT90, RV will unveil Todd Fitch of Boston College as our new head coach. Just so we could have an even worse offense than we have had the past 5 years. He'll then sign Tony Benford to a 5 year extension. Drops mic.

The more I think about it -- this really has to be a Texas guy or at least have some Texas ties... if not it could be Mac part 2.

If they bring in a head coach from outside of Texas they sure better bump up the assistant salaries and have some really good recruiters identified who can come in to help...

You could have a genius offensive mind come in here and still struggle if he doesn't get the talent.  This is a job tailor made for a recruiter.  That is really all you have to do.  Part of that is having an offensive system that attracts said recruits.  Mac never got that.

I'm sure Ron Mendoza 's available for cheap. Or we could get someone better like a traffic cone, a peanut butter sandwich, or maybe a cadaver.

or the albino squirrel on campus.

So now Thomsen and Jinks are out. Its pointing more and more towards:

Meacham

Cumbie

Spavital

Applewhite

Pretty much and of that group, Meacham seems to make the most sense.  He's the oldest by a decade at 50.  He can recruit Texas.  He has done a great job with TCU's offense.  At 50 he's certainly not old but it's about the time for him to take a head job.  He won't have to relocate his family far.  100% guess on my part but seems to make sense.

BC's offense is a direct reflection of Steve Addazio. He too very well may end up hunting for a job and going back to his roots as an OL coach in the very near future. And that would be disastrous.

The Tony Levine article posted elsewhere on this board mentions that Doug Meacham refused a job initial in Houston because he wanted to stay put for his family.  The importance of family has come up a few times when I've heard him speak.  Being able to stay in the DFW area could be a big lure for Meacham to take this job.

I agree on Meacham.

Meacham - Already knows the DFW recruiting landscape. Calls the plays for TCU. Maybe the one out of the group that needs to take a head coaching job now because of his age.

Cumbie - Maybe not as polished as Meacham as he doesn't call plays at TCU.

Spavital - May need the job the most as he is rumored to be out at Texas A&M. Might have gotten caught up in Sumlin's playing time promises which caused in-house strife.

Applewhite - Has been at multiple programs and learned from multiple head coaches. Understands what it takes to win at a G5 school.

Littrell?

Littrell?

Could be the mystery man that wasn't in the FOI from Vito. But then again neither of the others were. He is not the OC at UNC so that doesn't fit the Football Scoop information

When you look at the guys Vito says turned in resumes only Briles was a "young, P5 offensive coordinator".  Mike Jinks comes closest as a running backs coach.  Perhaps Vito wasn't "allowed" to share the resumes of the finalists or finalist.

I'm fine with going through this in four years . . . if said young P5 coordinator has turned this program around and is now getting poached to be the HC at a P5 school.

Seriously. If Frank the P5 coordinator, and then UNT coach gets grabbed up to coach a P5 program, then that coach clearly was doing the job. Which means wins. Which means better recruits and therefore, more wins. And that means good odds of another successful coach coming and repeating the process. Sure beats being here in 4-5 years hoping we get a good coach to get us back in the win column again.

I'm guessing Spavital, Littrell, Meacham or Cumbie, and the fourth is harder to guess but I'd say Tim Beck, Rhett Lashlee, or Josh Henson. Either way, I'm not terribly excited about any of these.
