12. North Texas

Why it's desirable: It's a work study program for a bigger head coaching job. That's not a magnet for an established head coach, but North Texas hasn't hired one of those since Hayden Fry in 1973. Its eight head coaches since Fry have either come from assistant coaching roles (six times) or from a high school (twice). For an assistant looking to learn how the big chair feels, it's a starting point.

Why it's not: There is no winning history to speak of, and the competition for in-state talent is immense. There are 12 schools in Texas in the FBS alone, including three others in Conference-USA.

Perfect fit: Texas Tech offensive coordinator Eric Morris.

Hmm...+1 to all of the above.  I wouldn't exactly punch him in the nuts on the way in the door, if you know what I mean.

So you'd massage his nuts?   :D

Only if he paid in advance.  There may be happy endings in this world, but they sure as hell aren't free.

It's incredible how terrible we are thought of around the country. Compared to ULM. Sobering.

Glad it opened your eyes. That's after 15 years of the current AD in place.

This hire will be another disaster...

In the end, I really don't want to know who all the finalists are.  I really, really, really don't want to be thinking ten years from now how Jim Harbaugh was in the fricking door, but walked away in favor of Todd Dodge.  (Yes, I'm aware of the financial constraints in that particular case)

Wow.  That is not a lot of experience:

  • 2010 Houston (QC)
  • 2011 Houston (GA)
  • 2012 Washington St. (IWR)
  • 2013-present Texas Tech (OC/WR)

However his recruiting list does look pretty dang good.

nope, however we say NT has an image problem among HS coaches. Sounds like a great way to fix that. Don't know he's the perfect hire but man he is intriguing

I will be at the Tech/Texas game on Thanksgiving so I will try to see how Jinks and Morris interact with the players(if not in the booth).
