I like how the defensive co ord makes double the other assistants! Oh yea it is TECH!

Jinks would be a good pick and is probably in line with what we can expect to garner interest from at this point. He was highly successful as a high school head coach and has been a running backs coach for a P5 school for the last three years which fits the logical progression model. We could triple his salary and still have plenty of cash to throw st some good coordinators. I still want to know what his offensive philosophy is and if it mirrors the wide open Tech offense or if that just happens to be the offense he coaches under. Let's also not forget that the resume list from Vito also includes one mystery name that was not included. The finalists could also include a coach that didn't send a resume but has been interviewed.

I found the following info for our current coaching staff but it's at least a year old.  (link: http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/football/assistant)

According to this database we pay our assistant coaches a total of $1,148,300.  The list looks upside down.  It seems Patrick and Perry should be higher if only for their recruiting ability while I'm not sure what Quartaro for his salary.  I would love to approach Tech's level of assistant coaches salaries which would be a little over $1 million more.

Filtering the list it appears that the average assistant coaches salaries for CUSA in this time frame was $1,006,844 while were third highest.  Assuming not much has changed in the last year or so, going to $2.3 million would be way out in front of the rest of the conference so probably not realistic.  However, increasing it to $1.5 million may be doable and should make us top in the conference.  Hiring the best assistant coaches we can and retaining them would make a huge difference.

The average for the AAC is $1,797,884 though that's only seven schools due to all the privates.  MWC average is $1,367,963.  MAC average is $839,101.  I would prefer to see us shoot for the middle of the next level up which is the AAC in terms of salaies.  $1.5 million would get us close.

Disclaimer:  Increased salaries would be terrific but no guarantee of success.  We still need to hire the right guys.  (UNT90 ... I've left you one hanging over the plate.)

Let's hire him somewhere on the coaching staff at the very least. Just because UTSA wants him....

With our luck, RV would place a call to Jinx.

We ought to hire him just to shoot the double bird at the roadbirds.

Dumbest reason ever to hire a HC.  I'd rather re-hire Dan McCarney than for this to be the reason we hire anyone.

You might want to also look at the number of coaches. A few recruiting co ord and  high school relationship manager type position? Have seen this position with a number of schools!

Maybe yours was, if so, sorry I threw you out with the bathwater, but I highly doubt there are 3 of you who were joking, and there are 3 who reacted the same way to Harry's bait post.  Gotta be a little bit of truth in there...  and if he's hired, I bet there will be a bunch of posts geared towards UTSA hate.

This is my first post.  My name is Doug Rush and I am the head baseball coach at Tomball High School.  I grew up in Denton and played on the North Texas club baseball team in 82 and 83 and on its varsity program in 84 and 85.  We were not very good but we were not given a chance to be either.  I graduated from North Texas in 1986.  I coached at Denton High until 1992 before I left to pursue head coaching opportunities.  I love Denton and I love The Mean Green despite the terrible way they treated baseball in the 80's.

Anyway, I am a personal friend of Mike Jinks.  We coached together and ran around together when he was right out of college and we were coaching at Killeen Ellison High School.  I am telling you right now that the moment I met him I knew he was destined for greatness.  He was a great quarterback at Converse Judson and a legendary quarterback at San Angelo State.  And yes he loves to throw the football for you guys that were inquiring.  Mike will light up a room with his personality.  The kids he coaches love him.  He is a great football mind and he has all the intangible to be a GREAT head college football coach.  And Mike wants the U.N.T. football job. I believe he will be incredible at recruiting, at assembling a staff, at promoting the city of Denton, and  at promoting our university. He is a humble but confident guy and he never meets a stranger.  Other coaches would love to work for him because he would be a guy you work with and not for.

I sure hope he gets the opportunity to at least interview because I think he has a great plan in place for when he gets his opportunity.
