Others to consider:

Chris Klieman, North Dakota State: His team beat Iowa State two seasons ago. He’s a Waterloo native.

Dan McCarney: Coached Iowa State to five bowl games between 1995 and 2006. Recently fired at North Texas.

Doug Meacham, TCU offensive coordinator: Anyone with offensive coordinator next to their name in the Big 12 should be a candidate.

their list includes several of the candidates that we are discussing as well.   Briles, Riley etc..

which is why we need serious looks at FCS Coaches with a history of winning at varying levels

I doubt they would take Dan back, but I know a couple of guys who were with the ISU radio network. They tell me there is a lot of people who still think Dan was great and ISU firing him was a mistake. As they point out to me, neither of the guys who followed equalled Dan's results. I haven't talked to them since Dan was fired, but previously they told me Dan's teams at ISU were up and down - some years very good and other years very bad.

I confirm this from friends who are ISU alums. I've heard the same sentiments many times over Shiner. They really liked him and were pissed that he was fired.

We had some of those guys come to this board and say how much they love Dan.  However, the ISU boards probably have more people who while they love Dan they recognize his shortcomings and would not want him back.   I really don't see any what Dan is hired at ISU but I can see a small group making noise to hire him.

And if he thinks it's hard recruiting to Denton, wait 'til he tries to recruit to Ames, IA.  :Zap:

Seriously, thanks for the laugh.  Right after we hired Dan, I was at an extended family function with a sizable Iowa contingent, including a big Hawkeye fan, Dennis, who talked of playing golf with Hayden Fry, and how amazing it was that McCarney did such a great job recruiting at a place like Iowa State, "went down to Texas and got some big time recruits".  His wife Nancy was Dan's high school English teacher in Iowa City and quite unimpressed with him.  I'm of a mind with Nancy at this point.

I get excited when I see reporters speculating about how should/could/would come to UNT because it seems reputable coming from professionals.  Then they say ISU should consider Coach Mac and I'm like, "Oh, so y'all are talking out of your ass as much as us.  Carry on..."
