So I was curious about where UNT stands in terms of its Facebook page likes and it surprisingly does quite well. At 161k likes, in Texas we are only behind UT (600k), TAMU (500k), Texas Texas (200k) and just a thousand or so likes behind Baylor. That means we have more social media activity and support on Facebook than Houston, SMU, TCU, UTSA, UTEP, Texas St, Rice, etc, and many of these aren't close whatsoever. We are also steadily growing and we'll easily be in the top 4 soon. Nationally we are at #53.

Regarding Twitter, the university has decided not to have a pure #UNT account and instead officially uses a #UNTnews account, which has 24k+ followers and still in front of some Texas schools but I suspect this increases considerably if the administration decided to have simple UNT account.

Point being, UNT is capable of attracting a large following from its students and alumni base, better than many other schools comparable in size, if not larger. This can easily translate into athletics support if we decided to be proactive in merging our sports image  with our emerging national branding campaign. We have a large supporting pool to draw from, so it becomes the AD's task to attract more of that support base by changing its culture and disconnect from its larger supportive base. Winning is essential, but also finding ways to engage more with alumni and students to participate, which is what has been very inconsistent under the leadership of RV and a few others.

It kills me that we don't do enough to reach our true potential but I have hope we'll get there at some point if enough of us continue to demand "excellence."

The only school I take issue with being ahead of us is Liberty.  That is due to their not being a real institution of higher learning and merely a mill for close-minded wannabe theologians

We are in good company outside of that abomination of a school.
