Any impressions on this player?  I realize he hasn't played much.  Do you think he will help us?

I was surprised he has a bit of a shot. He made free throws and he had that one break away dunk in traffic. He traveled but it was not called. It was a very aggresive move though. He might be like an Alonzo Edwards type player.

I loved Zo to death, however I am not sure I see the comparison (haven't seen a game yet).  Edit womp womp.  Seems to be a fair comparison looking at scholarship offers.

I was just hoping that he would provide quality depth in the post with solid defense and rebounding.  But, last night he looked more than competent on the offensive end; 15 points in 18 minutes is a really good sign.  Yes, he's a one year player, but on a painfully young team, he might be prove to be a critical piece during that one year.

7 rebound (3 Offensive; 4 Defensive). With more quality minutes he has potential to get a double/double.  EDIT: He did get into foul trouble though.

I was worried about post play but so far (under less than quality opponents) we seem to be doing just fine.

Taking competition into consideration, he looked good last night. Brings depth to the inside.

*We have more overall length on this team than any Benford team has ever had. With that, I wish they would run a Virginia-style packed in, soft man-to-man defense. I think it would work very well with this personnel.

Why would you run that? Doesnt fit the style of this team.

They want get out and run. They want to force turnovers and be aggressive. You dont have to pack it in like Virginia for NT to be a good defensive team. As long as the defensive rotations are solid you can play the aggressive man like they want.

Virginia is a "Dan McCarney" type of team. They play great half court D, and run a bunch of sets on offense. That wouldn't fit the type of players we currently have.

I view Katenda as a role player. We need him to provide post scoring behind Combs, because we dont have much. He did a lot of damage in garbage time, and against a weak opponent. Interested to see him vs a better quality opponent before we can declare exactly how he fits in the rotation.

I say that because I saw a lot of guards and SF's from NAIA breeze by our players last night. That will be a glaring problem once competition stiffens.

I understand your concern, believe Id love to see better defensive principles. I just believe this team is built to be over aggressive. I'm sure they are hoping Brice Jr. can bail them out with rim protection.
