Derek Thompson was the RV of quarterbacks.

Mostly bad, some good, and when we get a good one in here we'll realize how low our standards were.

But both will somehow end up in the HOF (see low standards) and somehow before Booger (see crime against humanity).

Does that make our current quarterbacking stable the Helwig of quarterbacks?

Yes, this is 1/2 troll post, 1/2 serious post.

I think it became clear after DT left that the offense was a hinderance to DT, not the other way around.

Some may lie, but every single UNT fan would give their left nut or ovary to  have DT behind center this year

EVERY

SINGLE

ONE.

Its so hard being so right so often, mofos!!

I'll play (tho leave my nuts alone). And I'm assuming the hypothetical is the 2013 version of DT.

And let's keep the defense and special teams out of it.

I would LOVE to have an average CUSA-level QB.

I'm usually right there with you, UNT90, on your rants...but this one is either a master troll or your falling for "average is UNT awesome", which I doubt.

That defense and that special teams play, along with a bruising running game, gave Senior QB DT the chance at having a Scott Hall-type performance against teams we should have beaten with average QB play. Both were tougher than nails and are about a million times better than almost every single QB that has played here since we moved up to FBS in 1995, with an extra million thrown in this year for the gap between our QBs now. Every single QB at each Denton high school can throw better than ours can. As Quoner mentioned, being better than this QB collection is not really anything to brag about. It reminds me of CougarQueen coming on here and bragging about how much better UH is than we are. That ain't exactly a real high bar--its basically a curb-high step to most people that know anything about college football in Denton. Yet she comes on here and scoreboards us, which is the equivalent of going to a pee-wee game and yelling trash talk at them the whole game. Eventually, most people roll their eyes and stop listenting to you, even when you have very valid points.

I miss the line that made him the least sacked QB in the nation a hell of a lot more than I miss him.

That line was here in 2014 too but our trio of circus clowns held onto the ball too long and got sacked at twice the rate of DT.

Thisright here. It amazes me that people who were wrong will look for anything to hold onto that wrong opinion.

Right.... Lemon wasn't forced to play out of position,  Y'barbo wasn't hurt all season long,  that line wasn't a shell of itself...

DT was average ... and it took him until his final season to get to that point.  Imagine if McNulty had been as good as DT these past two years.  Considering we wouldn't have that 2013 defense we might have won 6 games last year ... we might have 3 wins this year ... and McCarney would still be the head coach.  We may be better off that our quarterbacks are as bad as they are.

I know, right?

Im sure someone can find the thread where I said this team would miss DT.  The responses would be pretty funny to look at today. Even yours.

There was a bunch of "any QB can do what he did" "we will be better off without him" "Dajon is already better".

How did that work out for UNT again?

Remember people, this thread and my opinion after 2013 aren't/weren't "DT is the best QB in UNT history." My opinion was/is UNT would miss DT when he was gone.

And UNT has.

Terribly.

Now let that denial wash over your soul.

I kinda miss Derek... He had a couple games in 2013, where I think he was the strongest factor for those 2 wins. The Ball State game, I think he had the best game of his life that day. And I don't think it would be fair to say that the defense won us that game. And I think he had a darn good game against UNLV for our bowl.

So he was kind of wishy washy, but I will admit that we have not had the luxury of even a wishy washy QB ever since his departure. We have been going through a plague of bad QB's. And I don't think we have still found our guy at center. It is honestly ridiculous that we still have to aww about DT, because he's been long gone for almost 2 years now....

Why? So we could be 4-8, and maybe still have Mccarney around to screw up another recruiting class, and still not find a QB of the future?

The reason I said I wouldn't miss DT is because he couldn't take us where we are capable of going (a conference championship game). It wasn't all his fault, but he didn't. The fact that we've had the worst QB recruiting in the FBS the last 5 years doesn't make me miss him, it just makes me want us to get our together and get a coach who can recruit well and can bring in good, developable QBs who can be all CUSA.

We have had trouble replacing DT's production, but that doesn't mean it was an unreasonable request from the start, nor that he would be saving this program from the recruiting mess across the board. And that's what we need.

Changed gears from the offensive line talk you were wrong about huh?  Very smooth.

Asking for an average QB is more a comment/dig on DT's limited ability and our lackluster recruiting, rather than being able to win games. DT would not be able to surmount our per-game deficits this season.

Like you said, we should have done way better in QB recruiting and development than we have, especially after a bowl win.

And to take to take a rhetorical page out of @UNT90's book of spin, shouldn't we want better than just average?

Wrong? 4 starters returned.

But keep on hanging on to that hate you have for the MVP on the Heart of Dallas bowl. You won't see a bowl again for at least another 5 years.

DT won that game. He won Ball St. No QB has ever made a difference since.

I hope someone can find that thread and so we can see the comments. I'm pretty sure you were one of the ones that said anyone could take his place.

How is that working out?

Crushin'

When was the last time you posted without mentioning me, sweatheart?

you are comfortably the most prolific poster on this board. maybe @TheTastyGreek even has some official stats, but I'd wager that in the last month you've posted more than the next 3...maybe even the next 5 posters combined.

it's not a crush...rather just the law of averages. the fact you think it's the prior only reinforces the idea that you have a massive and out-of-control ego.

If the next QB signed came with a guaranty of finishing in the top five of every UNT career passing category, with the except of interceptions, would you take him?

If so, you just described what DT did in his career.

No QB has ever made a difference since.

That's a factual statement, but it doesn't mean he could have fared any better this year.

In fact, DaMarcus Smith scores more on a per-game basis (WKU and on) than DT did in 2013 (rushing TDs + pass TDs per game). I mean it's a measly difference, and it don't matter.

Either performance wouldn't matter in a season like we've had. 2014? I'll concede a 2014 where we assumed we could replace average stats with the talent brought in.

Not 2015. 2015 is historic, and is a culmination of many things that have happened (or not happened) the past 5 seasons.

Lance Dunbar has threads every single week he plays.   Pat did too.   Craig has quite a few started about him too.
Oh, and let's not forget about Riley Dodge.  We must keep up with him.

Dunbar...

Any running back could have done what he did...

Shhhhhhhh. Stop making sense. Some might have to admit they were wrong.
