Gifts totaling nearly $2 million from Oklahoma businessman and UNT alumnus, Jerome "Bruzzy" Westheimer ('65), will generously support the Mean Green Athletics golf program, the College of Music, the College of Visual Arts and Design, a commissioned sculpture by the late artist and UNT alumnus Jesus Moroles, and educational initiatives.

"Bruzzy Westheimer embraces the entire university experience with this latest gift," said Vice President for Advancement David Wolf. "His dedication to helping the next generation of UNT Alumni through athletics, art, music and national security shows a true diversity of support and passion for our students and the entire UNT community."

Sure seem to be bringing in several new $1,000,000 plus donors these days.  Great news, and it seems athletics has really stepped up its work in securing donor funding as well as the overall university.  The word is getting out that the future for UNT is bright and alums and others alike are taking notice.  Publicizing the good things UNT is doing has really started to help.  Dr. Smatresk has said that letting people know about UNT is a priority.  The University has not focused on this as much in the past, and, for me, this reflects a new and positive trend.  It will be helpful to our development officers, Deans and Department heads as they seek new donations to further the University's programs and to provide support for students and other initiatives.

Thank you for your vision and your support, Mr. Westhiemer.  The legacy you leave will reach far.

Speaking of golf....how many noticed that former UNT great Carlos Ortiz has donated $15,000 to the golf program at UNT?  Not his first donation either.

Ran into my old RA Marc Perez, who also donated $15K (but to football).  Good to see that recent grads are really starting to step up and support the University in a big way.
