Cool Pic of JJ Pearce "Leading Off" in current SI

In the latest SI that just came out, there is a great picture of a JJ Pearce High School(my alma mater) WR making a TD catch against Mesquite Horn. A friend of mines son is one of the lineman in the picture.

Shane - I'm curious as to how in the world that picture made it into SI?! I thought you might have some insight on this. I know the picture was from the DMN but just couldn't believe it found its way into SI. Pretty cool to open the #1 sports magazine in the country and see your high school leading it off.

Basically, anyone can submit a photo to Leading Off. That doesn't mean that they accept it or that they don't laugh you out of the building. But anyone can send the email.

Its a weird little section of the mag with photos that are basically just good photos not dependent upon the story or sport.

I haven't seen the photo, but is must have been unusual to make Leading Off. SI and the DMN have good relationship and the DMN submits things often.

BTW, its a huge paycheck that is split between the photog and the paper when it finally arrives, they picked up a photo of mine several months ago........ still no check.

AND I MIGHT ADD. That Richardson will rise to our past glory and kick both your asses.

Shane - Thanks for the insight! So you mean you are from the enemy? Say it isn't so!? The evil that is the purple and gold of the Richardson buzzards!? Now that explains a lot! When were you there?

Richardson and Lake Highlands.......glory days are in the distant past.

Justin - I looked on the SI and DMN website but couldn't find it.

Wow! This brings back memories!!

,..another LH Wildcat here, class of '97. Yeah, the three years we were there, we didn't lose a single home game, lost 2 reg. season games total, and made it to the state semifinals back to back years... then the couple of classes after us extended the playoff run to 11 straight years, but after that...... ugh.

... know what did it?? Those of you who were there remember that we had silver helmets back then... the YEAR they went to the juniorhigh looking red, it all went downhill...

Yeah, that's great for the Rams... who, if i'm not mistaken, are being coached by Jim Ledford, who was the offensive coordinator at Lake Highlands when we were winning in the late 90's.... he left for a head coaching job in Madisonville, and was replaced as OC by Harry Everett, who is now the head coach at Richardson..

Coach Led was a great coach and a great guy... best of luck to the Rams! Seems like we played Carter every year in rd. 1 when I was there, and we always had a lot of success, so hopefully he still has the touch!

SI also scowers sports photography agencys for Leading Off Photos. THey also have a live site to submitt photos. It says only SI photographers can submitt, but really anybody can. I have never submitted anything, but have never had anything worthy of Leading Off yet. It's a fun littel section of SI, its to bad ESPN mag ripped it off.

Shane what was the pic! How long ago was it, ive been getting SI for a while now.

      Is this what an “offensive genius” looks like?

      The defense was disastrous last night but stop with this "offense did enough to win" crap. A 3 and out and interception in the first 2 drives is not doing enough to win. Were it not for a defensive stop after the onside kick and a Porter 79 yard run, we'd have been down 21-0 and counting. Yes, the defense needs to do more but what high powered offense puts up 7 in a half? This team did the same crap last year. No offense in the first half and then when we put up garbage time points people say "look at the offense." The offense is bordering bad. Tulsa put up 46 on UTSA. Texas State put up 49 and even Rice put up 29. Just to show you where our "high powered offense" stands.

      Atrocious in "all 3 phases" (that onside kick was a film study discovery by UTSA) but E Morris is just a horrible game manager. Just stupid decisions on multiple levels. I wish we weren't in the bowl hunt so Caponi could be fired if at least as a symbolic action to show the rest of the staff (minus Cobbs) they need to step it up a bunch. To the decision making, it's all been said. The timeout at 2nd and 16 with 49 seconds to go when most offenses would just let the clock run out to close the half, not taking reasonable field goal attempts early on, poor playcalling (honestly surprised a screen didn't get intercepted), these things fall on Eric Morris. Just garbage level game management. It's like he's playing a video game where there's no real consequences. Time of possession was about 39 to 21 in UTSA's favor. I know Porter had huge runs but UTSA also had huge plays. Why is it that others are capable of sustaining drives and eating clock but our "elite" offense can't do so? Defenses aside, you'd think our supposed top notch offense could be more consistent. I know our defense needs to make stops more consistently but anybody please tell me why our offense isn't capable of having some 6 or 7 minute scoring drives? Morris needs to relax on the pace of game. Just idiotic at this point.
