New Union Walkthrough

Alright, so the video is a bunch of the images I took while walking about this morning.

Some thoughts and select images below.

1. It is big, it is bright, it is beautiful, but it is not yet fully finished. I say give it a month, and everything will be wrapped up.

2. Like I said before, I have no idea how they're going to keep it clean. Everything is soooooo white.

3. The emphasis really seems set on meeting spaces. You can't turn any direction without seeing another really fancy meeting room.

4. The only parts I didn't see were the mail space and new Barnes & Noble bookstore, but as you can see in the building map, the latter of that is to be huuuuuuge.

5. I was expecting the Lyceum to actually be larger than before, but that might not be the case.

6. The Syndicate is awesome.

7. Food options are spread out throughout, which seems smart so as to avoid a glut or congestion point in one part of the building. Only the convenience store type of spaces were up and vending today, with the rest of them including the full service Starbucks coming fully online by the end of next week.

8. The Mainframe, the on-campus Apple-Authorized dealer is tiny.

9. It was really cool to see students already propped up and studying in various spaces while walking around. You open it, they will come.

This was incredibly eye-catching.

Apparently, we have a Covenant.

I just walked through and it's very nice. Like CW said, it's not fully complete. It has a museum feel to it that is almost captivating. I just hope these lib students don't trash the place. It's very large and completely unrecognizable to the old union. Once the fountain at the North(?) entrance is complete along with all of the landscape it will be a gem. 

My initial thought was that administration needs to expect a large tick in applications and enrollment. Overall, great job UNT.

Just walked through it as well. It's just downright gorgeous. A huge selling point for UNT.

I think they'll be serving the same alcohol options at the Syndicate's Fuzzy's location that you would find at other Fuzzy's.

No, not yet. It looks set up to run. I'm sure they're getting logistics and personnel finalized.

Wasn't the drinking age 18 when that particular establishment was open?  I imagine there'd be a ton more liability today.  Frankly, I'm surprised that they'll have alcohol at all.  I feel very fortunate that I was able to work my way through undergrad entirely debt free via slinging drinks in an on-campus pub.  I just don't know if that opportunity would present itself today.

Yes, and it closed about a year after the drinking age was raised to 21.

Even when i was 18 i thought it was bad idea for an 18 year old been given the chance to buy alcohol.  I did take advantage of it. Drank some beer at the rock bottom lounge and played missile defense.

It was there in 88-89. Drinking age changed about 5 years before that.

Thanks a bunch for posting those images. Being 8 hours away, I really appreciate being able to see the progress. That update in the heart of campus was sorely needed. I have been on a lot of campus tours the last few years with my son and daughter. A facility like that is expected now. It looks like they have done a great job at NT. I don't know how they can do so good with it and so bad with a football team. I am very down on NT especially right now working with so many Tennessee grads, but at least the new Union is something positive.
