Gentlemen, I know that your defense has struggled mightily this year, but what are your relative strengths and weaknesses on that side of the ball? Have you faced many dual-threat quarterbacks this season? Josh Dobbs, our starting QB, falls into that category, but you may get a bit of a break, given the fact that he is somewhat injured and speculation is rampant that he will play relatively little, if at all, against North Texas.

Strengths: We have a pretty solid safety duo that does a good job most of the time

Weaknesses: D-line gets blown of the ball too easily, not enough size. Linebackers are small and slow, and because of the line not eating up blocks they can't make plays so our safeties make up for it. Young, inexperienced corners that will make mistakes.

In short: Expect to see our safeties record 30+ tackles combined

No idea.  But, in an interview with Vito, he said he was coming in as a QB...and, he's listed on our roster as a QB.

TE only reason we got him is we told him he would get a shot at QB, knowing full well that he's a D1 TE.

Our DLine has been working, and almost perfected, the swinging gate defense that Michael Finley perfected during his time with the Dallas Mavericks.

It is a form of politically correct non violent defense that our DC promotes. We basically make the ball carrier think he is going to get hit but at the last minute we swing the gate open and surprise the RB and hope that he falls to the ground.

Greenit, our starting tailback, a 240-pound bull named Jalen Hurd, will appreciate that courtesy. He has to be among the nation's leaders in yards after contact. Our offensive line has been a revolving turnstile due to injuries. Consequently, well-orchestrated drive blocking is not their collective forte.

Well, if we do get that bit of a break and stop you from scoring on one or more possessions, I am optimistic about the dude I've been seeing return punts for us, one Tre Johnson.  And I have no idea where he came from, seems like he just started showing up some time after the departure of our previous head coach and makes opposing punt coverage units of well respected teams look like they're in a slow motion replay while being televised in live coverage.  If we were smart we'd use him as a receiver; the one thing our starting quarterback can do is throw a pass that looks like a punt but travels further.  If our qb could just develop a little "touch", they'd mention his hang time, and our punt return man should be able to get under it  and hopefully remember to run in the same direction it's thrown towards.

i've been in "develop" mode since i saw the roster on the field during the smu loss.  also, everyone knows that i am a superior talent evaluator when compared to any current coach on the unt staff.

rutherford was randy moss at carthage.  just one time this season i would like to see us toss up a deep ball down the sideline and watch him compete for a jump ball against ncaa competition.  and before anyone replies with "dude, i'm sure they tried that in practice and he sucked", just know that i don't care and i want to see him given the opportunity to either succeed or fail in a game.  outside of jordan murray, he might have the most "NFL'y" body we've got.

goree was brelan chancellor at carthage.  give him the ball more and find out what he might be capable of.  and before anyone replies with "dude, every WR recruit looks like brelan chancellor on their high school highlight reel", just know that i don't care and i want him to start getting every one of Smiley's targets from this point forward.

Talk about damning by faint praise.

Also, I can agree with your points on the Carthage duo.

I think we should put Rick Villarreal at defensive tackle for this game. Since he insists on whoring out our players (not even high class whorin', either. Straight street walker whorin' for pennies), let's put him in to get a taste of what he is putting 20 year old kids through.

I'm pretty sure the NCAA would look the other way, if they looked at all.

We run the vaunted Speed Bump defense. It depends on how your coach reacts to that. Some believe the best strategy is to slow down to take it on, others go as fast as they can. Either way, we know what the result will be.

Once Tennessee is up 21-0 or 28-0 in the first quarter, I want to see new quarterbacks.  I don't really care who they are, as long as their names aren't McNulty, Greer, or Smith.

Put in Chumley, Cousins, Means, and Shanbour.  All of them.  Put a new one in every series.   I honestly don't see what difference it would make.

I honestly believe that any of those four simply walking into the huddle and saying, "you give me a post, you give me a slant, you go out in the flat, and you go long" and the results would be about the same as they have been all season long.

I mean, how could they be worse?  And, please...please after these four starts, do not feed me this "developing Smith for next year" line, okay?  He is not going to play quarterback for the new head coach if we are truly hiring in a guy with offensive spurs.

I don't know....seems kind of risky.  I mean we wouldn't want to do anything to embarrass ourselves here.

Good thing we will probably only kick off one time while this cat is in the game...

Unfortunately, there will be many punt return opportunities.

Would you guys be interested in trading ADs?

Seriously?

The last time I saw you all play, I was sitting in Neyland Stadium and saw my first ever "Utah pass". Not one of my favorite memories...although not as bad as Auburn 10 Tennessee 9 (Sullivan to Beasley again!) or the FL phantom reception for a touchdown to "win" the game.

So I will belive we beat you all when the game is over. Realize you are down currently and hope better things are on their way (but of course not at Vol expense).

Hope all of you enjoy your trip to East Tennessee; it is a great time of year to see the area. Volnation will welcome you .

(and, yes, I would be very interested in trading ADs )

Hey, if you need to get something built, or a guy to schmooze the major donors, you'd probably do ok; just don't let him hire anybody!
