I remember Harbaugh and Fisher in 2006 were names of coaches in the final mix before Dodge was hired. For the life of me I can't remember the names thrown around in 2010, let alone the finalists. I do remember that Mac was not a name that was in discussion much here on the board or in the media until right before it happened. I just remember that a new candidate was there and then RV and co flew to Iowa and he was hired in sort of a whirlwind. Who were the finalists in 2010?

Think you have already answered your question, sounds like it was a Finalist and that was it, thanks to the consultant

Chico, Franchione, and McCarney were the finalists...

think if you would poll fans McCarney would have been the 3rd choice of the bunch

The Chico discussion reminds me alot of JJ's departure and many people calling for coach Forrest to get a shot.   Alot of the same things were said about him "If he goes somewhere and becomes a great HC, we're gonna feel stupid".   "The players love him, he gets alot of effort from them, and he's a great recruiter".  etc...

Coach Forrest is still an assistant (unfortunately contributing to losses for the Mean Green as he's at WKU).

I will contend we're not "missing" coach Forrest.   But our B-ball program is in the crapper because we hired the WRONG GUY.

It's imperative we hire the RIGHT GUY.   Otherwise, the WRONG GUY is going to make us "miss" Chico if he happens to land somewhere and does well.
And just like coach Forrest not being the "right guy" for Mean Green basketball, Chico is not the "right guy" for Mean Green Football.    If, like Forrest, Chico remains a C-USA/MWC/SBC/FCS assistant, we won't "miss" him at all.

I'm just going to toot my own horn because my post about this is spot on, I think.

Its because they hear it from the players.  Fans think that these guys know everything and they value what they say.  In which I do to, they know a hell of a lot more about the X's and O's than me.  This doesn't mean that I have to agree with their business philosophy.  The AD job is a business job, they don't have to be athletes.  The AD is running an athletic program/ business not running/ mastering a 10 yard post route.

I've personally talked about why we shouldn't hire Chico to numerous players via tweets/IG/text, all these guys played here.  Why wouldn't they want to see their OC get the job?  They played with him, in most cases makes them more emotional attached to Chico than me.  We disagreed but we all understood that if(when) UNT hires one of the coaches being mention, they will be happy for UNT.   They just think the right guy is already in place.  A lot of them were actually supurised that these coaches being mentioned were actually interested.

Yep, they flew to Iowa, where he was coaching.  If it says it on the internet, then it must be true.

Despite the fact he wanted to talk to UNT, Franchione was never even called for an interview.

Sorry I mistyped Iowa instead of Florida. No reason to be a jerk about it.

Wait....What?

Which Harbaugh and which Fisher?

We were nothing more than interview practice for Harbaugh and Fisher. They both went on to P5 schools that same year to make more than Dodge did here and Jimbo made more in '07 as OC at FSU than Dodge did as HC. If you truly believe they were going to accept this job, I may have some property for sale.

Harbaugh was hired by Stanford shortly after his NT interview. NT had zero chance.

I would've taken Fran in a heartbeat. Still would, considering what Mac has done up to this point. Word was Rawlins put the hammer down and tossed Fran's app in the trash the minute he saw it.

If Rick/Gretchen threw enough money at either of them while they were sitting in front of them, one of them would have bit...probably Jimbo.   Instead, if you believe RV, Gretchen would not allow the football coach to be paid more than her, so his hands were tied.

Jim and Jimbo. And that's for real.

What could of been and what it is now. What a Shitty way to start your Friday knowing the possibilities of a football genius in Jim Harbough and a National Championship winner in jimbo. That is so appalling

Just say no to Jimbo. Dude is dirty as hell and many people here would come to hate his propensity to look the other way when his players are doing wrong...

Did we have enough? Fisher was making in the low $400s as OC his first year at FSU where they were coming of a 7-6 season with a bowl win over UCLA. After his first season he became head-coach-in-waiting and got a salary bump.

Not that is matters now, but RV told Emmitt and I on the field just after the end of Chico's last game in 2010 that McCarney had already been hired? (I didn't even know who McCarney was?) Emmitt pulled up his stats right there on his cell phone and we both looked at RV and said WHAT? Rick said the decision was made above him but he understood why we were all yelling "We want Chico" in the stands. He also said Coach Canales did interview for the HC job but the decision was made to go with McCarney. At that time, the "Gates were locked" and we all wanted Chico for the job. We thought it was a no-brainier? Apparently not, so what's done is done and here we are.. again. If it is true that hindsight is 20-20, it must also be true that an ounce of prevention goes farther than a pound of cure.

Please do your homework this time Rick V., there will be no one else to blame.
