So I've been seeing some things thrown around too much that I would like us (as a "big" school) to stay away from. This whole idea of a short and/or cheap contract is tiring.

First of all, no coach is going to sign a contract for anything less than 4/5 years, and no AD is going to sign them for less than that. This isn't free agency where you sign a one year veteran minimum to see if a guy still has it. One year? Three years? No one would offer that, and why would they? Makes no sense for either party for many reasons (no serious offers will garner no serious candidates).

We want to be a big boy in football and we are going to act like it.

Also, the whole hiring an inexpensive (read: inexperienced) coach will not fly either.

McCarney was inexpensive as it was, and he had plenty of P5 experience. The average 2015 compensation: $1.96 million (if my internets did me right).

Heck, even the bottom half averaged $829,231.

Canales or no Canales (it's not going to be Canales), the next HC will garner 4/5 year contract, and above $800K.

Because we are big boys and we act like big boys. (if I say it enough it will happen)

think about a contract it is one sided, the coach can leave for greener pastures or we get stuck with a goat.

I understand your point, but I don't think fear should drive who we should or should not target.

If he's a fit, then offer him.

giphy.gifI have a hunch the next head coach will make over one MILLION dollars.

I almost agreed by virtue of the GIF.. but I highly doubt that. not while we still have to pay Mac.

It will depend on the coach but $1M is in no way the ceiling.

I agree, I think it needs to go up to $1.5, but thats with incentives, not his base.  I see the base being anywhere from 1-1.25.

The money involved is crazy nowadays and 1.5 is on the low end from a national average. There is a reason why the turnaround is so high...These coaches better be going to the depths of hell and back for each recruit or they should be sitting at home the following season. How Mccarney sandbagged us in recruiting was the most frustrating part of his time here. He didn't care enough to consistently grind it out on the recruiting trail.
