I'll bite. We know directly from Chris Riddle (Florida QB Recruit) that Chico hasn't been able to recruit the guys he wants. He's been handcuffed. And i'm not saying he is the perfect candidate.

I don't know who the answer is from North Texas. But honestly, someone who cares about this program, and loves it here. Is passionate about little ol' UNT, and has improved everything he's put his hands on when he's had full control.

You want wide open offense?

" In 2008 at South Florida, Canales’ offense led the Big East Conference in scoring and finished second in total offense.  He helped his team reach a national ranking as high as No. 2 during the 2007 season and No. 10 during the 2008 season."

Done.

You want someone with some head coaching experience but is still younger and affordable?

Done.

He has shown me that he is willing to adapt his game to find success, he can motivate and he wants to be here. He knows everything to know about this program and what it would take and he still wants that kick in the teeth. We actually get in depth answers to questions in interviews and not ra-ra horse shhh...er crap (sorry harry).

He pretty much is your wish list embodied if you give him the benefit of the doubt that he's never had much control here. The only thing we don't know is his recruiting. But the man has been chomping at the bit and he's hungry. He'll get an offer to be a HC somewhere and if it's not here, mark my words. Quote me. Save my post. I think UNT and us here on the boards will regret it. And if i'm wrong i'll eat all the crow you can dish.

Now all that being said:

- His contract should be three years

-To get an extension he needs an entrance to a bowl game at least once

-He needs to fire cosh

I know we are all keyboard coaching experts, but college football hiring isn't as formulaic as you try and make it. It's a crapshoot, there are 1,000,000,000 reasons why it could all go wrong even if we hire the "right" guy. At least we'd be gambling on someone who gives as much of a damn about North Texas as we do.

(Preparing for downvotes sir!)

Three years in the $500,000 t0 $600,000 range. New OC DC $350.000 to $400,000 range. Bump all assistant coaches salary. Hire a local HS coach that runs the same offense make him QB coach. Good article on Kitna last week. Could be a maybe if he wins a few more games.

but his offense with Dodge was good??

The question was recruiting, and it was wide open offense under Dodge.  I love the excuses that are formed.

Dodge recruits won the HoD Bowl??? Y'all keep changing the narrative. I thought that Dodge recruits were the only reason Mac was successful??

If you're going to knock Canales go at Greer. To be fair, Greer looks and has the skill of a D1 QB, just craps his pants when the ball is snapped.

At the end of the day I just want a clean slate, I don't want to knock Canales I hope he does well somewhere else.

Patterson makes 3.5 mill while his coordinators make 300k.. That's the norm in college football.  Why would your HC make only 20% more than the coordinators?

Wait....did KingDL just say he doesn't want to knock Canales?

Cali I hope your relative well at his very next location. May he have a the utmost success.
