Above are the conference rankings. Would we want to be in the MW? I believe it would be beneficial for us to move there and get away from the FCS start ups. BTW AAC has been doing really well as a conference and holding their own in OFC games,

I'm all in favor of the MW if they'll take an additional team with us such as La Tech. It's nice having other Texas conference opponents, but CUSA is not what it was hyped up to be. To be honest though I am interested to see what happens when the big12 inevitably breaks apart. I would love to join a conference with the misfits of that conference. I think a strong core could be assembled from the leftovers and UNT needs to be a part of that as well as 4 or 5 of our conference mates...

IA St, TCU, Baylor, Tech, UNT, Rice, La Tech, UTKFC, WVU (if the Big10 doesn't snatch them up), and bring on ULL and Ark St. With a core of teams like this we could lure Tulsa back in a long with Tulane. Hell, bring on SMU to get it to 14 and make the DFW trio of UNT, TCU and SMU mean something. This would be a highly rated conference and could dictate a very favorable TV contract deal. This may be read as a pipe dream but the big12 will disband in the near future, bank on that. There will be teams looking for a home and this given scenario makes sense.

Those stats are pretty much how I would rank the conferences overall off of the top of my head. I've always liked the MWC idea myself, but I'm a bit biased since I tend to be western oriented, and would love to see us regularly play in places like Colorado and Nevada.

Ideally the AAC would be best for us right now, but that won't happen with smu so the MWC would be the best option. Our AD needs to be getting us ready for the next alignment because it will be coming sooner or later.

I don't see the big 12 breaking up Baylor, TCU, Oky State and OU are all in the top 15, Baylor and TCU looking for National titles I see the Big 12  grabbing some teams I could see them grabbing Memphis and another team taking them back to 12 and a conference championship.

If we can start winning the AAC is where I would like to be now.  We need to spend some money on our coaches a million plus on head coach and another million or so on the coordinators

Me too, but more for my own selfish reasons.  I'd get to see tons of road games. Maybe I could operate a "Mean Green Bed & Breakfast" (or hostel) out of my basement on roadtrip weekends.

Not holding my breath, though.

CUSA is where UNT should be for now.

It has regional rivals with schools in large markets.  (DFW, Houston, San Antonio, etc.)

UNT needs to become the big fish in this pond first.

Factors I think about when reading about conference alignment, other than strength of the football members, when it comes to football.

Region/location of other teams
TV contracts/money
Bowl tie-ins
Travel costs for school/fans
Quality of road trips for fans (Does the host school have a good campus? How is the local cuisine/beer...)

Other things come into play if you're talking about other sports, like basketball tournaments, etc...
