If you are a new coach and you are evaluating this job, I think there are some positives when you consider the players who will be back.

DaMarcus Smith will have a full spring and fall camp.  Not to mention he has 4 more games left to play.  He could be one of the best returning QB's in the C-USA next year.

Jeffery Wilson may be the best running back in the league next year if he is not already.  He is only a sophomore this season.  Willy Ivery is going to be a good one.

Most of the o-line is young.   We lose Carlos Harris but there is still lot of youth and talent at WR.

Defense also has a lot of youth but McClain and Gray could be the best tandem in C-USA as well.  I like our young corners, especially Brooks.  Linebacker seems to be the biggest area of need, and that is a position you can find a good amount of talent at just here in the DFW area.

Obviously, we have a lot of room for improvement in the program -- but there are some good players here that will help a new coach right off of the bat.

Like I have stated, there is talent to be competitive. The new coach has no excuses coming in, offensively.

The same can be said about defense. It's just not as blatantly obvious, but we have talent on D too.

A solid QB can make everything click and players play harder when they look up and see that they're in the game in the 2nd half, they just do.

Is 2-2 to close out the season a pipe dream?  I think it's possible.

If the east draw is favorable next season, watch out. SMU, Bethune and Army are all winnable games RIGHT NOW, let alone next year.

what's the deal with Darrien McNair? I know his redshirt has been burned because he's played in a couple of games this season. He was sitting up in the stands last night with Caleb Chumbley, Demikal Harrison, and a few other redshirts.

My guess is he has not played enough to keep him from redshirting and has some type of injury that will allow them to get him a medical 5th year.  There is no reason for that kid to lose a redshirt at this point of the season.

A single play burns your redshirt.  If you play less than 30% of the season you can apply at the end of your 4/5 for a medical hardship waiver.

I hear he has 11 broken bones, water on the knee, severe flatulence and an ingrown toenail.  He shouldn't have a problem getting a waiver.

Thankfully, it looks he'll be ready for Spring Practice.

According to my sources, you're correct on all but the flatulence.  You probably mis-understood.  It's actually irritable bowel syndrome.
