You asked for an example and I quickly gave one. I'm not going to search for days to prove something I already know.  I've done it once and won't again.  But if it's within the 3 previous year parameter you want to stick to Berry was extended in 2012 to 2016...another four year contract for even less money than he made in the 2012 season.   Besides....your missing the point.  You may not have meant to say it's never possible but the guy cracking the whip at the coal mine says so.  He's said it so often..like so many other things..that our low-expectation fan base takes it as our only option despite example after example showing it isn't

Believe what you want to believe.  If you think this program is going grow under RV's leadership then there's nothing else to say. Go ahead and let him make the next hire and flush even more money down the toilet.  Who knows..maybe he'll get lucky this time?   I'll believe what I see and hear.   And in '12 I watched a guy with a $187k 4 year contract in his back pocket kick our guy with the 5 year $750k deal's ass. Three years later a guy with even less money, fewer scholarships and a 1 year deal kicked god's gift to salt and skins on the wall's ass between his shoulder blades.

Ive said multiple times, that I'm sure its happened before but its not the market rate.   I've also said multiple times that I think we need to clean house, from top to bottom, that includes RV.  It doesn't matter if you make 187k or 750k.  Berry's been at ULM for a number of years and he's had 2 winning seasons and is currently 1-7 and 0-4 in conference.

If you are taking a chance with a lesser known guy (read: no other head coaching offers), a four year deal can get done. Seems like a Belt team did this recently.

I see the Chico lunacy/idiocy continues...

I guess you don't read the names, I said multiple times that I don't think Chico should be the HC, I think we need a fresh start.  You even commented on one of my post, about this topic.

People need to stop comparing us other Sun Belt team, we need to start comparing ourselves to other bigger name programs, like schools the AAC.

I get the sense that a majority of fans only watch UNT football but if you're going to start commenting about other schools and programs at least do some damn research before you start typing some non sense.

Well then, aren't some of us just silly little children.

Yes, you are.

But I think the next 3 games will remedy the child in you.

Believe me, if being a loyal North Texas fan hasn't killed the child in me, I doubt that Coach C's record in the next three weeks will do it either. Especially since he will go at it with his own child like energy and exuberance...........................

Not only has it happened before but it happened here two years ago after RV extended Mac's contract,  and that extension did nothing in the way of raising the recruiting bar for us.

And speaking of recruits who didn't seem to mind how many years their head coach was under contract...

But wait..those are FCS recruits...they don't count!!!!   Yeah...they count.  They count all the way up to 66 to 7. They count...especially to Alex Kuresa,...who decided last February that despite Barnum's future hanging by a thread under a one year contract he wanted to play football and lit us up for 3 touchdowns that day.

Again, this isn't the question I asked.... 3 years at the FBS level, not 5 years at the FBS/FCS level.

Again...your question was answered...concerning football and basketball because your questioning the narrative on whether the amount of years a coach is under contract somehow matters to recruits or not?  It doesn't.  That's the answer to your question.

FCS players are playing because they want to play and this is their only opportunity.  Most of them are not trying to make it to the next level and they understand that but some are and the draft proves it. Other maybe trying to transfer to a FBS school and they didn't want to go the JUCO route.  They need to find a coach that will get them there quickly, not 4-5 years down the road.

Lets compare apple to apples, not apples to oranges.

Since you know more about contract negotiating and think that UNT is going to hire a coach on a 4 year or less deal.. Well, I'll give you +175 odds.

As Q linked earlier in another thread, we have observable evidence that it does matter.  It may not matter to all, and it probably won't be a deal breaker in most of your class.  Maybe swing 2 or 3 cases?

I think you have to look at it on a school-by-school basis.  We can both agree we don't have the Sabans, Miles or Carrolls of the world coaching here.  With all the volatility going on in Denton - lack of wins, coaches being fired mid-season - what CAN we control?

Are shorter contracts okay if you have a winning system in place, a la Boise State or TCU? Or are they more valuable when you're in our current situation?

I will consider this: as long as RV is making the hire, I don't want the term to be any longer than it has to be.

Congratulations!  You seem to get it.  Something fans like Dr.Suess probably may never get....and that is don't believe the bs fed to you by the group running the Coal Mine on Bonnie Brea.

If RV is somehow able to pull a rabbit out of his hat like Johnny Jones, his only good hire at UNT (revenue sports).  We all get that his last hires havent been good and he should be fired, but I just dont see that happening any time soon.  I dont remember Dan McCarney's name coming out until very late in the process, when I heard it I wasnt too impressed but I bought in.  I think theres more talent available right now than back then, espcially with the money that we are willing to pay.  If he's able to get a guy like Briles or Applewhite, I think we will be very happy with the results.
