It's really discouraging when the immediate reaction of folks to idiocy is to try to get them fired, publicly disgraced, or otherwise completely humiliated over something that doesn't really concern those folks.  We live in interesting times.  No more "live and learn", or "go and sin no more".  No, it's I'm going to jack you up any way I can.  Because I can.

Yep.  Everyone's career is now subject to death by public firing squad. It's unfortunate because it basically make someone too toxic to hire for several years.  Social Media has made everyone a keyboard cowboy.

She was trying to create a media circus, she deserves what she gets.

Even the Hodge Twins had to comment. If you've never seen them before, very NSFW.

That was pretty funny...and I was thinking the same thing about the arm-flapping, except instead of giving a number to a personal trainer, I was leaning more towards a shrink.  What the...

And that petition...wow.  I get that you consider her a poor example, but as someone else mentioned, that writing is also a terrible example of what should be expected of our students and alumni.  It's different on social media and such, when people use lots of abbreviations and slang, but in a mildly formal piece of writing that will be viewed by the public...that's not cool, man.

I got a call for donation to the journalism dept right before this story broke.  If I had known of the story i would have declined to give any money to the department.

So, the incident trumps any other reason you might have for supporting your university and program?  Check...got it.

She should be fired.  Her goal was to further the "cops are after the black folk" theme and to have those two, very professional officers suffer disciplinary actions up to dismissal.  She is a poor representative of UNT.  If my kids were thinking about attending UNT's Journalism School, I would steer them elsewhere.

Why do you need or anyone who read the Fox News story need an immediate scalp here? I may have missed the officer or the police department calling for her firing, but it seems like they had a great opportunity to show how things often do and should work and it was awesome to see her claim get destroyed through the process. Is it fair to say it seems like most people want her punished so they can finally feel like they are pushing back on a bigger political movement? I don't really follow the Journalism school, but I'm fine with the story dying in a few days after the next outrage and skipping all of the ancillary fallout of a bold, public termination that would mean more headlines and headaches for everyone involved.

Or they want the head of the JOURNALISM department fired for USING HER POSITION TO LIE. And telling that lie DIRECTLY IN THE FIELD THAT SHE TEACHES.

Also, people need to read Whren v U.S. and understand what is and isn't  "racial profiling."

Here is a good enough synopsis:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whren_v._United_States

The law that she broke was walking on roadway where sidewalk available. Yes, that's a law. She could have been written a ticket or even arrested.

Stupid.

I agree with everything you said except this, but I am glad you finally got to pontificate on this one as it was just about down the toilet pipe and into the sewer of irrelevance forever.

Say you immediately fire her and she uses her WITCHCRAFT KNOWLEDGE OF THE DARK SCIENCE OF JOURNALISM to take something is timely and relevant to continue to drag this out in the spotlight, dragging in the school and everyone with it. Probably not a fun time for anyone involved and a much bigger black eye - but would be a fun time on the message board for someone with really no involvement whatsoever. like yourself.

Or, you finish the semester or year, quietly dismiss her where she can't make a stink (and even if she tried, it wouldn't go very far) and get her away from the school. Which scenario is more beneficial for the university? I think if the Corinth police hadn't made such excellent use of this as a teaching moment and expressed more empathy than I've seen from you in all 60 billion of your posts combined, I'd be right there with you, but the officers and their department are the ones who had the right to make any demand possible with her, and they handled it beautifully. It's the craziest thing....the Corinth Police don't get off on picking message board fights from an iPad while shuttling between Granbury and the Stockyards in the left lane, they just generally do what is best for their community.

Such passive/aggressive name calling from you these days. If I didn't know better, I'd think CBL had taken over your body.

Why do you try and make every topic about me? Maybe done self-examination is in order?

Aww, I've been avoiding you and the toilet army you've rallied on the football board, but I'm glad you thought those handful of recent posts about hockey somehow tied back to you. I think I was pretty clear here - you are right on 80% of your post and wrong on the other 20%.

Better than usual, but I guess you almost got backed into a corner with points you couldn't refute, so way to swing for the fences with "passive/aggressive" (it was direct); CBL (have you all kissed yet?), everything is about me (you just clog up the board is all) and self-examination (you're right, I regret posting already.)

My evil plot to drive you off the board is working, I see (insert evil laugh here).

Notice I didn't say WHEN she should be let go, just that she should be let go.

But then again your twisted perception of me probably caused you to read what you wanted to read.

I like you not on the message board. Is that twisted? I'm glad we agree and look forward to you posting the words "man, Quoner and I really are aligned on this one, gang" to make it official.

Her goal was to get the officers fired by lying.  Why should she be immune from any punishment?

She is going to be turned into some social hero by lying.

I don't want to suggest that she be immune from punishment.  And for the record, I think she should be punished.  I just don't like the idea of people losing their jobs over a pitchfork mentality brought on by social media.  I probably wasn't clear in that regard.  What she did (IMO) was pretty sorry, and does deserve some kind of reaction.  I just think it should come from those that employ her, and that that employer should not be coerced into doing something simply because some folks get a petition together based on what everyone with working eyeballs can see on the internet.  I don't like it when it happens to cops, either, FWIW.

The situation over at MU is completely different compared to what happened at UNT.  First off, the incident at MU happened on campus and dealt directly with a student.  Click actually still works for MU (at the moment) although she has been suspended pending an investigation into the situation that occurred.  Bland wasn't on campus and her encountered didn't deal with an NT student or the UNTPD.  It wasn't a problem until Bland wrote about it in an opinion column and added her professional tag and UNT to the article.
