If Hermann gets picked up, who would you expect Houston to hire to replace him?  Is it Applewhite's job?  Would they go after someone else?  Interested to hear your thoughts on that.

I doubt Applewhite would be Houston's first or second choice. Houston has the money to go after the top candidates in the country so I doubt they'd settle for Applewhite without exhausting other options.

If Hermann does leave and Applewhite doesn't get the job, I think that boosts are chances tremendously.

If it happened, I wouldn't expect Applewhite to take over.  If it was anyone on the current UH staff, I'd think it would be DC Todd Orlando who makes $500k vs Applewhite's $300k.  Applewhite's salary is even the same as Asst Head Coach/Co-DC/Safeties coach Craig Naivar.  So just going by current salary, Applewhite isn't considered the top assistant.

But I would bet if Herman left, it would be another up and comer from outside the current staff.

Maybe Apple is hired as our OC? That would work!

Herman might take him along for the ride.  But if not, that's only $100k difference in salary from his current, although he might expect a bigger bump depending on how this season goes.

Houston has the money to get any coach they want.  Tillman Fertitta can write the crack out of his petty operations account and get the coach.  Houston's goal is to get into the P5.  Step 1 could be Tillman writing that check.

Agreed. I don't expect Herman to bolt after this season.
