We're in the bottom 3rd of this list (85th out of 121).   We would have to basically double the pay to reach the mid point of $1.4 million.

$500K gets you in the Boise range which is where I believe we need to be.  I realize this will not be easy for UNT internally to swallow but if you are going to play the game you have to pay the money.  Heck -- Lafayette is paying Hud 1 million...

We need to be in the 1 mil range for this hire + incentives. I think we can do that this go around. Gotta pay to play. No more excuses.

What needs to be considered is where we rank in the G5--I have us at 25th, assuming and Montgomery at Tulsa are higher than what we paid McCarney. We know Morris at SMU definitely is and I consider BYU as a P5 for this instance. That is 25th out of 62 G5 teams, since UAB is no longer at this level.

Paying what we pay isn't the problem...its not being able to recruit that is killing us. All of these facilities, conference affiliation with regional peers, and a solid academic profile of the university still haven't moved the needle at all with recruits in Texas high schools. Maybe that was all McCarney, but somehow, I'm betting its still going to be an issue for whoever takes over here. I really believe that the next coach only has a chance to turn this thing back into a winner within two years if he can bring in a scheme that fits the QB here, as well as a strength and conditioning program that somehow builds up the lines to a G5 level within the next couple of years. Otherwise, just getting back to .500 anytime before the 2018 season would be amazing.

If we pay the next coach less than we were McCarney then this Athletic Department has just completely given up.

I think the new guy that we got in here over the off-season is legit but he has only had one off-season to get his program in the mix. I haven't seen before and after numbers from his program but that would be a telling tale
